The all-new chapter is draft complete and getting rave reviews from my prereaders. I promised a lore dump, and readers are going to get it in spades. I do believe these 9200 words will be the first new content on the Feathered Heart story in... [checks] nearly five years.
Just because that for all my writing talents, I’m not that good with humor. I once asked the great Denim_Blue if he might be willing to do a gag chapter of Firefly in the style of his Art of Warmance parody play (it was in one of his Gentleman for Mares stories) as an April Fool’s prank, and at the time he had some interest. But in hindsight, he was already on his way out of the fandom at that point, and nothing came of it. Oh, well.
Hero sat in a trench, clutching his rifle. The “Third” Changeling-Pony had broken out, and Chrysalis had mobilized damn near every bug that could hold a rifle. Hero took a peek over the trench. No-Bug’s Land, or No-Pony’s Land, or, as it was widely accepted, the Deadzone. There lay hundreds and thousands of dead ponies and changelings. He sighed, sitting back down. The wait was killing him. How long till they were ordered to charge back into that shitstorm?
“Raghhh!”
Bezier drove her bayonet into the pony’s chest. Behind her, Hero swung a club into another’s head. The changelings were attempting to break through the pony lines.
Hero raised his rifle, firing at a charging pony. But with each pony that dropped dead, it seemed another was ready to take their place.
Hero continued swinging his club, knocking ponies to the ground.
Ocellus steered right, her crosshairs locking onto an enemy fighter. She smiled wickedly, before letting out a burst of rounds. The plane began spiraling out of control, before slamming into the ground. Ocellus cackled out, twisting her plane around.
“Woah! Hey, careful up there!” a voice yelled out from the tailgunner seat. “You tryna throw me out of this thing?!”
I have an actual vacation on the way after a full month of extra hours. It’s been approved for next week, and I plan to do little but decompress and catch up on chores. Actual travel will be limited to maybe a day at the beach.
The new chapter is at 15.2k words and still not done, with it very likely to be broken up again. I see a natural breakpoint developing after all the memory replays are shown, and once again, it would seem best to let them—and the alternate perspective of events/major and minor revelations they show—have the spotlight instead of extending the chapter to include a major trailing M-rated scene. So it will end on the doorstep of it as our favorite Tribune finally manages to fatally offend
For all the love and support I’ve gotten the last couple weeks over my blog posts on the story, I’ve decided it’s only fair to reward everyone with a new C&C chapter, which I will be starting this week. It will be sharing creative space with the next chapter of Midnight Rising, which I’m in the middle of writing as we speak, but I’ll aim to have a completed C&C draft out in three weeks, and a chapter launch in time for April 1st.

It's become of a bit of a habit for me to write introductory blogs for new stories, especially ones I worry might cause some eyebrows to raise for one reason or another. This is very much one of them, given it's based on what was originally another author's story.
Greetings, one and all! Whether you're a long-starved reader of the original story, or a new one just coming in, this is your starting point for Feathered Hearts - Continuation and Chronicles. In it, I will try to anticipate likely questions and explain myself, as to both why I've chosen to do this, and in this manner.

Because you’re going to get climactic chapter 31 of the story in just two days after today’s chapter 30. I considered holding it for Xmas, but in the end, it’s just about ready, so with chapter 30 fresh in everyone’s mind and readers (hopefully) eager to see what happens next, it’s on the way and will launch Tuesday night. I will also attempt to have the promised T-rated chapter 29 posted that night as well.
Spoilers for chapter 30 ahead, so don’t read this until you’ve read that.
At this point, I’m strongly considering releasing a T-rated version of the chapter since after rereading it a couple times, I’m thinking it got a bit too R-rated for non-clop readers in a couple places. If so, you’ll see it posted in the next few days.
We’re almost there for C&C chapter 36, but don’t get too excited just yet, folks. Even if the last preread is in tonight, I won’t release because I still have to a) give it two more editing passes, b) create the T-rated version of the upcoming chapter, and then c) edit that. So my target release remains Friday evening, and I’ll have to allow a chance that it may slip to Saturday morning since I also have to get ready for my upcoming road trip this weekend.
And you’ll get the next M-rated chapter upgrade on Tuesday, which will be chapter 22: Know Thy Ally. There was a slight change in plans as I elected to include chapter 14: Feathered Heart with yesterday’s initial batch, as I decided it wasn’t fair to make folks wait for the full 5,000 words of Marco’s and Gilda’s first time. Not with the ending of chapter 13 leading right into it.
As it's pretty much ready except for one final editing pass, I'm moving up the launch of Feathered Hearts - Continuation and Chronicles to this evening. Get hyped!
But getting the new Midnight Rising chapter ready for launch took precedence. So, apologies for that, but a day late, here's a snippet of the next Feathered Hearts chapter to come, taking place the morning after the visit to the Hall of Heroes:
The following morning found Gilda and Fortrakt standing at attention in their regular uniforms before Tribune Narada and Ambassador Strenus.
Aiming to be draft complete tomorrow, at which point we’ll see about a teaser. Graphics will take longer, but it’s a three-day weekend for me, so there’s plenty of time to work on it. One of the perks of working for a bank is we get all federal holidays off, including Presidents’ Day.
All you can do is surrender to them and let them have their way with you. But that’s very much to the benefit of readers.
I finished the second Feathered Hearts transition chapter last night, which now tops the scales at 11.5k words, and then charged right into the third one this morning, putting down the first 3200 words on it. This third one ends with the start of the Cloven attack. Expect a rollercoaster within it including some serious mood swings.
In a word... whew! I Just want it known that I put on one hell of a push for this, folks, but for as easy as it came, it was joy to do. When your muse is fully engaged, writing becomes fun. Admittedly, having the flu helped, since it meant I could spend working hours on it, and I sure as hell needed the distraction.
