Hero sat in a trench, clutching his rifle. The “Third” Changeling-Pony had broken out, and Chrysalis had mobilized damn near every bug that could hold a rifle. Hero took a peek over the trench. No-Bug’s Land, or No-Pony’s Land, or, as it was widely accepted, the Deadzone. There lay hundreds and thousands of dead ponies and changelings. He sighed, sitting back down. The wait was killing him. How long till they were ordered to charge back into that shitstorm?
Yet, by this point, Hero’s eyes had gotten so used to the visuals that… he wasn’t phased by any of the violence.
He looked over to Bezier, watching as she cleaned off her rifle.
“Any news?” he asked.
She shook her head. “Nah… heard someone tried to desert though.”
“Really? Who?”
She shrugged.
Soon, there was a commotion. The two turned, watching a two high ranking soldiers dragged a certain blue-maned changeling through the trench.
Bezier’s eyes widened, and she moved over. “Hey. Hey! Where are you taking him?!”
They stopped, turning towards her. They threw Venom to the ground, watching as he looked at Bezier, then back at them.
“He was tryna desert, so we’re letting him,” one of them said, before motioning over the trench. “Into the Deadzone.”
“What?! Are you crazy?!”
“Yeah! Why not do it here?”
“Hero!” Bezier turned to him. But before she could say anything, one of the changelings nodded.
“That’s a good idea. You could use some target practice anyway.”
They held Venom up, holding him still. Venom looked at Hero. “Y-You son of a bitch!”
Hero hesitated, but raised his rifle regardless. Venom kept fight, shouting profanities at Hero.
“Come on! Kill you son of a bitch! You don’t have the fucking ba—”
Venom was cut off by a loud pop, making everyone jump. The two soldiers let him go, before watching him clutch his neck as blood gushed out. His legs kicked and thrashed, but he eventually succumbed to either loss of blood, shock, or choking on his blood.
Hero stood, holding his rifle, the muzzle smoking. He pulled back in the bolt, before pulling out another round and loading it into the chamber, then pushing the bolt forward, chambering the new round. He then went back to watching over the trench. Soon, everyone else did as well, leaving Venom’s body to the rats.
*Shudder*
