Feathered Hearts 4-chapter release post-mortem · 6:15pm Dec 19th, 2021
In a word... whew! I Just want it known that I put on one hell of a push for this, folks, but for as easy as it came, it was joy to do. When your muse is fully engaged, writing becomes fun. Admittedly, having the flu helped, since it meant I could spend working hours on it, and I sure as hell needed the distraction.
Speaking of the flu, something odd... I’ve almost completely lost my sense of smell in the wake of being sick even though I’m not really congested any more. That’s a COVID symptom. What the hell? Could it be that my initial home antigen test was correct, and I actually had a mild case of it last weekend--as I recall, it felt like there was a very uncomfortable feeling of something stuck in the back of my throat or airway I couldn’t get out--but then as it faded I segued directly into having the flu?
No idea. I’ll guess I’ll get an antibody test to find out if I had the coof unknowingly. Corona-chan can be sneaky that way. For the record, not being able to properly taste food sucks. My sense of smell is not completely gone, but its severely muted. Here’s hoping it restores itself quickly as I continue to get better.
Anyway... here’s the plans for Xmas week: I’m going to attempt to get a new Eros chapter out by Xmas, though time is running short. We’ll see how well I do with it. The new chapter will pick up where the last one left off on that little cliffhanger. And yes, I know I’m notorious for ending chapters on them. But there’s no denying it leaves readers ready for more!
Nothing else to say at this point, except I’ll provide a mid-week update on the Eros chapter. Lest I forget, I’d also like to welcome aboard new readers, and thank everyone who commented—there was plenty of feedback on the four chapters this week, and better yet, eleven new likes on the story!
Welcome to Christmas Week! I’ll try to leave one last Feathered Hearts present under the tree in time for Xmas morning.
While the lose of smell is indeed a sign of Covid, a flu can also be the reason. The difference is the duration: For Covid it is months, while for the flu it is days/few weeks.
In any case I hope you will get better soon! (and get the shot!!)

I don’t know about ‘months’ since my brother’s family all had it but got their sense of smell back relatively quickly. And I also don’t recall losing my sense of smell following flu bouts in the past. But maybe you’re right. I’ll settle it with an antibody test.
Appreciate the well-wishes! And I’ve had the shots, for whatever good it does. Recent evidence suggests not much, giving soaring case counts in heavily vaccinated northern states and the major sports leagues.
I feel you on the lack of smell. Haven't had mine for over 10 years, although I can still detect the truly bad stuff, like mold. Silver lining, might be a good chance to chow down on stuff that's healthy but doesn't taste all that good. Get better soon.
