BRMC is a lovely rock band with a spot of fuzzy noise rock and gritty garage rock thrown into the mixture.

Music SIG Likes #28 :: AlicebanD · 2:17am Nov 9th, 2016

AlicebanD is a relatively new artist from Essex, England led by singer and composer Alice Walker. She has a very smooth folk style with jaunty piano pieces interspersed with horns. That is about all I can find on her; not much out there on the internet (that I could find). Her music certainly is upbeat and peppy; I dare you to listen to it without tapping your feet!

Music SIG Likes #57 :: Amaranthe · 2:59am Sep 25th, 2017

This one was quite fun. Amaranthe has an interesting melange of powermetal, metalcore, and pop. That probably makes more traditional metal-heads cringe and wince, but I personally think lead singer Elize's bright, clean vocals make an excellent counterpoint to the other lead singer Henrik's more traditional "growly" voice.

Wikipedia Almighty describes Karma to Burn as a "desert/stoner rock" band with "an uncompromising, mainly instrumental sound".

Me? I have no idea what all that palaver means. What I do know is that it has some very pronounced acid-rock grooves that my co-workers and I enjoy listening to whilst loading up the lorries.

Hillbilly Casino is a glorious mix of country rock and rockabilly. Not quite country per se, but you can definitely hear how rockabilly genre influenced "modern" country. Regardless, it is almost breathlessly fast paced, upbeat, and excitedly energetic. Shades of Elvis Presley abound. This one comes courtesy of my coworkers on the production floor. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would begin to take interest in country type musical genres, I would have scoffed

Killing joke as been around for quite some time, spanning genres from post-punk (which I do not really care for) to industrial rock/metal (which I enjoy). Killing Joke apparently provided a major influence to other bands like Metallica, Sound Garden, and Nine Inch Nails. They are also what influenced me to start listening to more "heavy" music when I was young(er). I can thank my parents (my da specifically) for that. More on that below!

Nothing fancy here, just straight up, pure heavy metal that does what it says on the tin. These chaps have been around for quite some time, possibly longer than many people who may stumble across this this little blog post have been alive... It certainly has a "classic" metal feel with its driving guitars and pounding beat, and Mr. Dirkschneider's distinctive AC/DC-like vocals. It is perfect music to rock out to at work and it comes up quite often on music rotation on the production floor at

More delightfully crunchy steampunk and industrial folk (!) courtesy of all 'round good guy/gal Cynewulf. These guys are pretty much the ur-example of steampunk music and the unofficial "spokesband" of the genre.

It has been nearly 2 years, but thanks for the suggestion!

Electronic industrial style metal. Pure, plain and simple. Quite catchy with a strong beat and rhythm. Quite popular with many of our drivers at $WORK. Odds are if you live in *mumblemumble* county in Americaland, your postman (and women) are probably listening to this...

A bit more laid back this time. Some indie rock with a healthy measure of neo-soul and funk rock. (No, I do not know exactly what those labels mean; that is what the great and knowledgeable Wikipedia says—perhaps someone more knowledgeable that I could elaborate?)

Regardless, I just love lead singer Kevin Swaby's voice. Really goes well with The Heavy's big-band funk sound.

Some heavy metal and melodic metalcore from Trivium. I really enjoy their later albums (especially Silence in the Snow); tjeir vocals are smoother, less harsh "metal screaming" and more melodic overall. I know some fans decried the shift, but I certainly enjoy the new sound. Lead singer Matt Heafy has a pleasant enough voice and it is nice to be able to hear it when he is not screaming out his larynx.

A good, healthy dose of garage rock/blues rock here. This was actually the first band that introduced me to this genre and got me interested in it. Their earlier works have a deliciously raw blues sound that I absolutely love. Their later works veer more towards psychedelic; not necessarily bad, just different.

Dan Auerbach, the lead (and only) singer, released a solo album, so he is lumped in this list as well.

Some melodic death/industrial metal from Sweden. These chaps feature quite prominently in our various playlists on the production floor. I personally prefer their more melodic later works; they (IMHO) really seem to have hit their stride in Hail the Apocalypse.
