Music SIG Likes #66 :: Hillbilly Casino · 3:26am Jan 30th, 2018
Hillbilly Casino is a glorious mix of country rock and rockabilly. Not quite country per se, but you can definitely hear how rockabilly genre influenced "modern" country. Regardless, it is almost breathlessly fast paced, upbeat, and excitedly energetic. Shades of Elvis Presley abound. This one comes courtesy of my coworkers on the production floor. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would begin to take interest in country type musical genres, I would have scoffed and though you mad. "I listen to metal, not that weird country stuff!"
And yet here we are...
Debt With the Devil
Tennessee Stomp
(Lots of energy in this one!)
80085
No Toll Taken
The Ballad of Psycho Steve (feat. Dale Watson)
(I love the "Don't you know just who I think I am?" lyric)
Somethin's Getting Ready To Give
The Doctor
Violets In May
Psycho
I'm Over It
Georgia Tornado
One Cup Beyond
Broke Down
I'd Rather Be Lonely

Oh yeah, rockabilly! I was just the right age growing up to catch the mid-90s swing revival full-force, and I remain a fan of (almost) all things Brian Setzer. Here’s the track that really blew my doors off back in college:
4785002
That was a delicious song. (Fun fact; If I time a mail job correctly, the rhythm of the inserter I operate syncs up pretty well with the song...) I will need to check out more of his work. Two of my co-workers, "Spanner" and "Brick" really enjoyed it as well, commenting "Yer pony pal has some good taste in music, SIG"
