For the horror fans... · 9:14pm Sep 14th, 2022
I know it's not October yet, but I'm always looking for good horror. What's your underrated horror film that few people know about, but any true horror fan needs to see?
I write pony words. Millions of them. Some people actually think they might be worth reading. I am very thankful for that. Also, I have a Patreon now?

What horror films have you seen so far?
Does it includes Nightmare before Christmas? Or that movie only applies for Christmas?

IMO, Nightmare Before Christmas counts as BOTH Halloween and Christmas.

Lots and lots. What are some thoughts, though?
Morbius(2022);
Cats(2019).
So few people know about these two masterpieces being good horror films, because the creators of the second one forgot the "Horror" tag, and the first one being about superheroes.

In terms of actual movies, there’s this list I found when searching up underrated horror films, see if anything strikes your fancy.
Dead Meat also covers a lot of horror movies in his Kill Count series on YouTube, perhaps there’s one you haven’t seen yet.
If you’re into horror series as well, I’d suggest something like “All Of Us Are Dead” a Korean zombie apocalypse series on Netflix. Haven’t seen it myself, but I heard it’s pretty good (the only thing I see people complaining about is how long it runs.)

Cats. Scarier than the Exorcist by a mile.

Big fan of Dead Meat, especially the Kill Count. Just about flipped when I saw him in Scream 5.
These two movies where the first to get me into Horror Brainscan and April Fool's Day ( 1986) . If you haven't seen them they both have really great twisted things.
The next tour horror are the original and sequel both are super gory dead snow and dead snow 2 Red vs dead
The Changeling (1980) with George C. Scott. In my opinion it is the best ghost movie ever. it doesn't throw a bunch special effects at you (like Poltergeist). It uses subtlety and mood to show the haunting.

Holy shit, he’s in Scream 5? That’s fucking awesome!
Triangle, starring Melissa George and directed by Christopher Smith.
It’s on Peacock, and if possible, do NOT watch the trailers.
EDIT: Also Run, from 2020 with Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen. It’s directed by Aneesh Chaganty, the same guy behind Searching.
The Coffin Joe series.
Død snø (Dead Snow)
Only horror movie I saw recently was the Korean movie The Wailing.
It's not really underrated, but nobody talks about it much, but I'd definitely recommend The Fly
Not sure if I have to much to offer in terms of films — I'm more familiar with the video game side of the equation than anything — but just off the top of my head, the opening scene of 2002's Ghost Ship is so memorable that it infamously makes the rest of the movie a complete and utter letdown. Very early-2000s, very "Resident Evil on a boat", if you catch my drift. Still has its handful of moments, of course, but that darn opening well and truly towers above them all.
Also, while I'm at it, I might as well dump this unrelated clip here too for the heck of it. I wholeheartedly apologize in advance.
...Willow Creek...
...hands down, one of the scariest movies I've seen this past year...
About the only horror films I've seen (so no idea if they're underrated or not) are The Others with Nicole Kidman and the Sixth I Think Doctor, 30 Days of Night which is good, but violent, about vampires in Alaska. The Cabin in the Woods which is a subversion but does have a horror triton, which is cool. And Blood Red Sky is also quite good, I thought. I'm one of these people quite easy to amuse with a film, though. I can't say there's a film I've seen that I didn't enjoy.
Slugs, a 1988 horror movie about a strain of black slugs affected by toxic waste that begin eating humans.
Funny Games. I was deeply uncomfortable for the duration of the movie.

If there's one movie my wife would kill me for showing our kids, it'd be Funny Games.
One I've seen, but don't recall getting much love online, is The Frighteners. It's about Micheal J Fox fighting the ghost of a spree killer back to continue his bloody work. A bit of a horror comedy so sorry if that's not your thing, but I would recommend watching it if you get the chance.
It's technically not a horror film, so much as a thriller film, but A Fire in the Sky. It's about the abduction of Travis Walton, an alleged true story.
What makes this movie great, in my opinion, is how it focuses on the ramifications of the incident, rather than being a straight up alien abduction movie. After Travis is abducted, his workmates are slowly ostracized from their community as people believe that they murdered Travis. Then, at the very end, when Travis explains what he went through, the alien scenes are so terrifying they are well worth waiting the whole movie for.
