Calor has a brother now, I've decided.

'Where'd he come from'? What do you mean? Don't all BBBFF come narratively out of nowhere?

This is Palpus (based on 'palp', a term for certain insect mouth parts/feelers, and Latin for 'to feel'). He is Calor's older, chiller broodmate. My good friend LevelDasher and I created him together, and while existing in my fanonverse, he is technically LD's character.

It occurred to me one day in the early AM that lasting single children are likely exceptionally rare in changeling reproduction. Even in the KoLB-verse, where paired drone mating was always the case, I think it's likely that your typical changeling lays anywhere from, let's say 6-12 eggs over their lifespan, not 1-2. Not literally hundreds all at once, like real beetles, but enough to make siblings far more normative than single children, compared to other species.

This surplus of population is ideal for changelings, who were first an overwhelming swarm that favored large numbers, and are now a pack community, where all of the hive's adults help to look after all of the hive's young.

This is all further supported by the fact that both Thorax and Ocellus have siblings. The latter appear in flashbacks with Ocellus's parents, and, like them, are confirmed as her family via the MLP trading card game and the Gameloft mobile game.

Thanks y'all! My next story is finished and is in the editing phase. Depending on factors, should be posted in a week or two. I went through four unique block periods with it so I'm glad it's finally finished.
