Thirty Eight years ago. · 10:10pm Apr 14th, 2022

Hey everypony, it's currently April 14th 2022. And for me it is a big milestone.

You see, it was thirty-eight years ago on this very date that I became a My Little Pony fan after having watched Rescue at Midnight Castle.

At that time I never even considered where the I.P., or myself would be in later years. It has been one wild ride at times. :rainbowlaugh:

And it pleases to announce in this day of 38th anniversary that I have in fact been returning to my content creation and moving forward slowly, but surely with the revisions on Believe in Magic. Moreover new ideas for As the Tempest Rages and the rewrite of my first story Adaptation are starting to fall into place.

I still need to discuss some of the new ideas that have come up lately with Chaotic Ink, who has been stupidly helpful throughout so much of this. And Luna, am I freaking glad for that too.

Things are are still going to slow for the next little while I suspect. Both due to the lack of creative energy I've been struggling with, and the ongoing fallout from my medical drama. With the former finally starting to return, and the latter finally starting to settle it's going to be all systems go at some point.

Mind you, that doesn't say much necessarily given that I have no less than two main projects, and two side projects I've been trying to work out. One of said side projects is actually an official entry into the main Witching Hour canon. It is meant to detail what my O.C. Umbra was doing during the Canterlot invasion during the season two finale.

If I could crack the start, it would probably get done somewhat quickly considering it would only be a two to three chapter event. The other side project is a prequel of sorts to a monster girl story Ink and I have gone back and forth a little bit on. I can't say when the main story might possibly drop given that Ink is also dealing with two main projects and at least as many, if not more side projects.

So it's fair to say that both Chaotic Ink and I are somewhat busy at a bare minimum.

That's all for now everypony, Bryan Luna.

My Little Pony began as a TV series with Rescue at Midnight Castle. And contrary to what most would have expected it was the most hardcore TV cartoon of its time, as it featured a menacing demon centaur (the G1 Tirek) who threatened to behead a baby dragon and gets killed by a rainbow.

 Right on the money Tailbiter.

This, was not uncommon when I was growing up back in the 80s.

It still strikes me funny that G.I. joe and Transformers, which are way more violent on average didn't feature any in canon character deaths at this time.

Instead it was the frilly show with the pastel ponies that started with one. :rainbowlaugh:

Sometime after came Lavan, voiced by James Earl Jones. Although Grogar (who merely got banished back to the Dark Dimension) was a lot more popular, though he wasn't actually a necromancer, people made that up to highlight G1 being more hardcore than other TV cartoons of the 80's, as if Tirek, Lavan, their deaths, and other dark villains like Hydia, Squirk, and Arabus weren't enough. (And Grogar too was pretty evil without being a necromancer)

They seemingly canonized this in G4 by having what appeared to be Grogar resurrect Sombra with necromantic rituals, a definite reference to the G1 fanon, but... well, you know...

I'm gonna try and watch Midnight Castle and the dragon vids you recommended this weekend. With tomorrow being Good Friday AND the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, there's traditional stuff that might get in the way, but I'm also off Monday so if not tomorrow or Saturday then definitely then.
Considering that for a specific vessel coming up in TWH I play music from the James Cameron movie, that and Midnight's new grandma will hopefully give me the drive to get writing done.

Like I said, when you can.

And, for the record, I gave up on the idea of having Bryn use the sorceries from Elden Ring because I have found them to be stupidly broken. Even with my still very limited contact with them in game they were overpowered to hell and back. And that was before the update that buffed them no less.

Ahh, but you forgot the other in canon deaths. The Raptorians.

They may have been vitrified, you know, turned into glass, but that is still a death state.

That said, they weren't the most threatening antagonists in this series. :rainbowlaugh: But yeah, not many punches were pulled back then.

What dragon vids? (I really love dragons)

5650868
I guess if I can count Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow in eternal dreamless stone sleep (and ignore the S10 comics) as close enough to death, the Raptorians count as well, since this is permanent in their case.

I also think Squirk and Crank were sucked into oblivion, since where did all that excess water go when Megan drained it? Into nonexistence, it seemed, and it took Squirk and Crank with it, though not quite as definitive as Tirek and Lavan.

Strictly speaking, petrification is a death state like vitrification, both are the most reversible death states. But they are in fact death states.

What dragon vids? (I really love dragons)

Dragon magic from Elden Ring. And if you really like dragons that much my revival of my HiE story might interest you.

In Adaptation my O.C. Bryn also loves dragons and will have a harem of sorts with a number of female dragons.

Something that has been going through my mind is finding a way to tie Rescue at Midnight Castle and Gen 1 into my fic. Not the ones I published, this one is a big project.

You have set yourself quite the task there. It will not be an easy thing to do well.

5650973
Yeah, and probably complicating matters is that I'm using EG as the setting.

5650978
Okay, so I can confirm that it will add at least some further complications given my own experience with writing the tagged story.

If you message me with an outline of what you've got in your head I may be able to help.

First of all, I apologize for being very late on this, but I only noticed this blog post now. I to can remember when this originally aired, though it most likely didn't get its name until after Escape from Catrina aired. Before that, it was just called My Little Pony partly due to the time of it being unknown if Hasbro was going to continue the franchise at the time. Unfortunately, it was said that very few characters after this were continued after this such as Megan, Spike, Mr Moochick, and Habbit while we never see any of those ponies again. If they were to be used again especially for when there was finally a TV series, those ponies probably would have been like the mane something for that. More importantly, I would have been even happier if Megan was allowed to keep her cowgirl outfit, because I felt that it really described her background and even looked more appropriate for going on adventures not to mention actually riding some of those ponies unlike the frilly overalls she wound up with, which I felt was a major downgrade, though part of that reasons was due to it being one of the outfits for the doll of her while the other was to make her look more girly to appeal to the target audience. Nonetheless, I will always see 4/14 as Megan Williams Day, because it was when this very character debuted, though I will commemorate the episode as well.

The episode was always called Rescue at Midnight Castle. That is the title I saw that day in 1984.

Either way, there were things about this I didn't know until the wiki pages were brought on this. The first one was the other ponies that were turned into dragons besides Applejack since their names were never brought up and that those ponies didn't even lines, so it was hard to know who they were when it originally aired. The second is that I didn't know what Megan's last name was because it was never mentioned in the show at any point, but it was in the toy line for some reason and in this case on the wiki pages. The third is that the sea ponies actually do have names for the ones that appear, but their names are never brought up in the show whether or not they have any lines. The fourth is that the white pony with a cat on her mane was known as Newborn, but again she didn't have any lines nor had her name mentioned, though it wasn't as if she played an important role anyway as she stayed at Dream Castle with Glory and Medley, who I did know because their names were mentioned and did have lines. Overall, until the wiki pages, there were a lot of things about this pilot I didn't know about before.
