Elden Ring, Diablo 4, and dark fantasy. · 5:47pm Mar 28th, 2023

So, I haven't mentioned this much, but I'm a 80's kid. As a result I grew up with some, or a lot of dark fantasy movies. It's hard to remember which. :rainbowlaugh:

Last year I started playing Elden Ring finally, fully reintroducing me to the genre. And over the last weekend I played the Diablo 4 open beta, which shows a lot pf promise as a game. It has also provided some inspiration for my writing.

I started rethinking my intended writing style and how it didn't really suit me very well as an individual. While I won't be changing everything to a more "dark" tone, it certainly wouldn't work well for Believe in Magic, not in the overall. It will get a bit dark at times.

One my biggest influences in creating Believe in Magic was Sailor Moon, and that anime got pretty bleak at times. For those of you who haven't seen it, there is a bit of a spoiler inbound. At the end of the first season of Sailor Moon four out of the five main characters straight up die on the way to face main enemy. So yeah, it didn't shy away from such things.

With that said, you shouldn't expect any main character deaths from Believe in Magic, but it will get pretty rough in certain moments.

As for As the Tempest Rages, I have been working on making Equestria more mythological by adding more creatures from mythology. This one will also be taking on a possible darker tone. So if you've ever wondered what a dark fantasy version of the Witching Hour might look Ink, well, you may start getting answers fairly soon (hopefully).

I have also been thinking of putting out some "feelers" for a co-author. Frankly, my lack of practice and experience as a writer is really getting in my way. I make some recurring mistakes that cause me to feel frustrated and a hold me back. In addition to that my high functioning Autism does aggravate my two biggest problems from time to time.

I'm also thinking about looking at taking on at least one or two more contributors as well. Sisters know I need all the help I can get.

Just saying, even if Diablo IV came out well, with the stuff happening at Activision Blizzard and Bobby Kotick's still doesn't want to own up the many wrong things...

Elden's Ring, in the other hand? One of the main reasons I'm getting an Xbox Series X.

The game did in fact, turn out well. Save for the bland looking overpriced cosmetics. 🤦‍♀️ More lust for money than brains, or artistic ability went into those.

As for Bobby Kotick, it's really hard to effectively respond to that kind of arrogance. I just don't have the words in my vocabulary for that. Not especially after his latest self-aggrandizing rant.

Elden's Ring,

Elden Ring is going to kick your ass, when it's holding back. I have nearly 300 hours in just one playthrough and it has been an experience I do not regret having.

That said, the Royal Revenants can absolutely do one. And get in the bin while doing so.

As long as you're not playing Redfall or Gollum though, you should be fine.
