...so in near-instant retrospect, I shouldn't have tried for a 3% increase on the Ko-Fi goal percentage. It should have been at least 7%. Or, to really get it over with, 73%. Which, plus the extant 27%, would have reached goal, and then I could have posted Extra Time as a subgoal for the rest of the year and started making trip plans --
It's that time again. The regulars know how this works. The new arrivals may need a quick course.
(Yes, much of this is a straight paste from the last time. Maybe I can't format or code to save my life, but I can occasionally paste without breaking a file.)
5650259 I see what they did with the white heel. I don't know if I love it or hate it.
I feel like if you're going to do a contrasting heel (even if it's to mimic a flag), you really should do a contrasting toe as well. As someone who handknits socks. >.> :looks at nym:
5650316 It’s all the stranding inside the sock. Imagine your toes getting caught, all the way down (those do appear to be thigh-high stockings). Because those are knit socks. Machine knit, so I doubt those floats are caught every 5 stitches. >.> Ever seen the inside of a very busy knit hat or sweater? :nods:
That’s what makes them a war crime.
(Or they’re compression socks. Frankly, the resolution makes it difficult to tell. But it’s fun to speculate about stranding.)
Reminds me of the time I started out as a software developer, first month on the job or so...
The command to display the manual for many unix/linux tools is "man". On our systems it was often neglected to update those manual pages even when updating the tools themselves, so we relied on google searches to provide us with up-to-date manuals.
So there I was, trying (but failing) to remove a pattern of strings from a textfile using the aptly named tool "strip". I decided more information on the tool was key, so I opened the browser and searched for (you might already have guessed it)...
man strip
Let us just say the results were not quite what I had been looking for...
Inside & outside of stranded colorwork socks in progress (finished several years ago, currently being unraveled & redone plain—I speak from experience).
The ‘floats’ are the long strands just sitting on the inside, their color hidden. You can see how I tacked them down by twisting them with knit stitch every few stitches—this doesn’t show when done by hand.
There are ways of doing fixed floats on a knitting machine, but they’re arduous and not good for production mode, so you won’t see them in fast fashion.
5650466 Ahhh. I was seeing the unicorn vomit socks as the warcrime socks, but now that I actually squint to read the text on the less garish pair: yes, those are the war crime socks.
Why would you search for that phrase in the first place?

From the 'verse Discord server:
It begged certain questions.
Which I then sought to answer.
I regret my life choices.
I mean… I once had a brain fart and couldn’t think of the word ‘Clydesdale’ so I ended up searching ‘Buff Horse’. That went places.
THOSE SOCKS LOOK AWESOME THOUGH????
So which pony's getting those this holiday special?
Now I know what to send Estee for Christmas.

Decided to take that challenge. Did you also end up with a relatively even spread of actual results, memes, and dubious drawings?
I got a pic of George Bush Sr., do i win a prize?
I fail to see the problem. Garish, maybe, but those socks are dope!
Those socks rule, actually

These just looks like pretty socks, why are they called war crimes? I assume it’s a joke related to “Be gay do crime.”

Thank you. I'm a close person, so I would not deduce any of that. In fact I still don't know some of those words!

Oh. I keep forgetting the jargon thing.

The text at the top is "Lockheed Martin". The world's largest defense contractor. 'War crime' is not metaphorical here.
