So thought I'd pop in to give my two cents on the site update, because what is a blog for if not sharing your thoughts?
In my opinion? Definite improvement. Yes, it's jarring that the feature box is no longer constantly at the top of the page, and it is kind of irritating that apostrophes now appear in some boxes as a string of gibberish symbols thanks to the new coding, but the ability to separate author notes and the main story, the convenient new placement of several new buttons, the more streamlined appearance, larger banner variety, all of these are changes for the better.
Granted, I'm sure some people will complain, rightfully so, that the fact that the featured box is longer shoved in everyone's face means that stories will get less exposure, but nothing's ever perfect first time around. Things could be a lot worse. At least unlike YouTube, these updates were made because they were functional rather than because the site programmers were bored and feeling sadistic, which is my personal theory as to why YouTube's new home page looks like the old one if it failed to load properly.
Admins warn that there are bugs, particularly with publishing new chapters right now. So things are still in the early stages. I'll be watching out for any of those problems for the moment, but I believe that given time to work out the kinks and address the more valid complaints, this could really work out better for the site.
I hope that in the next update, they can find a way so that the word count of the notes sections doesn't get added into the total word count of the story. Because then I'd finally have an accurate picture of how long Human actually is. I know it's probably still over 300K, but I'd really like to know the real word count one of these days.

One thing I don't like is the fact the new stories on the front page have descriptions so short you have to lick on them to find out what they are about, therefore people are going to look at new fic's based purely by the picture.
