Hey guys.
A lot of us are going through really tough times because of the pandemic - some people have lost homes and money, others have lost lives, and every single one of us have been impacted.
A friend of mine, BrownieCat, only just created an account last month, and originally reached out to me for co-authoring after we bonded over our shared love of cats! She was very kind and charming - (with a love of bad puns in particular) - and was generally a really nice guy! We worked together for a while on our collaborative story, and slowly learned more about each other: our favorite colours, foods, and the fact that she hated burritos with a passion being only some of the things we got up to whilst procrastinating (shh).
I eventually found out her family was hit really hard by COVID - not only did they run a small family restaurant, which would’ve lost money due to the current restrictions in place, but both her parents were in ICU because of the virus and she was living with her brother. A week earlier, she PMed me, saying that she couldn’t work on our story for a while, due to the passing away of her father. I offered my condolences and took on writing the next chapters myself, checking in ever so often to make sure she was alright, only for her to tell me one day that unfortunately, her mother had departed just a week later, and she and her brother were now technically orphaned, with her brother taking her in for the long-term.
This is a horrible thing to happen to anybody, especially for someone as young as 14 - and I could never imagine myself in her position. I count her among my close friends, and I’d really appreciate it (and I think she would too) if you would maybe drop into her user page and leave a nice comment, just to make her feel supported and not alone in this uphill climb.
Brownie was very hesitant in reaching out for comfort, despite her usual open attitude, and that is a very natural reaction when dealing with grief - something that can be eased with compassion and encouragement. But as I said at the start, she is not the only one facing difficulties during these times, so a little kindness could never hurt anybody - because you never know just who may be facing situations like these!
