"Come an' ge' me Cousin Hero!"
"I will!"
The two nymphs ran through the Hive, laughing as they enjoyed their game. Apex swerved and ran into an open doorway, which turned out to be the armory room.
The two nymphs skidded to a halt, as Hero eyed the dynamite eagerly. "Should we snag some...?"
"Nuh-uh, Uncle Pharynx sai' to ne'er touch the weapons wi'out his su...supe'...soup'ision!"
"Supervision. And what Papa Pharynx doesn't know won't kill him!" Hero ran down the rows of weapons, snickering. Apex followed more cautiously, looking around.
Then, a shimmering light caught the nymph's curious natures. They wandered towards it, then, they saw it.
A crossbow, mounted on the rock wall a couple feet above Hero's head. The tips were lined with gold, and a silver arrow rested in the fodder. Both nymphs stared in awe.
"Cousin Hero, wha' is i'?"
"I don't know...but shiny!" Hero cried, a gleam in his eyes as he lunged for the crossbow. Apex reared up, leaning against the wall for a better look as Hero lifted it from its mount, holding it carefully.
"I be' i's real special..."
"Then it's mine!" Hero giggled, holding the crossbow close.
"Hero! Drop that right now!"
Hero yelped and both nymphs spun around, seeing Pharynx standing there. Hero gulped and held out the crossbow, which Pharynx took in his red aura.
"Hero. Apex. Never. Ever. Touch. This. Again. Is that clear?" Pharynx snarled at them, and they nodded, frightened.
"W-Why is i' so special, Uncle Pharynx...?" Apex, whispered, and the General's gaze softened.
"Because..." Pharynx looked down at the crossbow. "It belonged to someone special..."
As Pharynx placed the crossbow back on its mount, the two nymphs noticed a name carved in the hoofhold that they hadn't seen before.

The nymphs looked at each other, then at Pharynx, who ruffled Hero's mane gently before walking away, leaving the nymphs behind.
The General calmly strode through the halls, heading for his room. When he got there, he walked in, shut the door...
And collapsed to the floor in tears.
