Quiet, but Busy! A New Story is Coming, but There is a Catch... · 6:08pm Apr 14th, 2021
Two parts to this news. Firstly, KoLB, which is on the verge of completion.
The story is being edited, a process that may understandably take a little while. I've spoken with my editor and we agree that one of the issues with the story is Calor's relationship with Thorax and how it comes largely from nowhere. I've played with the idea of adding a new chapter for earlier on in the story to remedy this. Whatever the case, because the last epilogue involves Calor, I want to work out how and where to solidify their relationship first before I write the epilogue, because if I do things in reverse order I may make more editing work for continuity's sake.
Tl;dr is that KoLB is on a short-term hiatus while it gets edited and while I figure out what I want to do with Calor.
The second news—and this may both excite and disappoint people—is that I do not plan on writing anything else buggo related for a while. It's occurred to me that I've long since burnt myself out on changelings. I have 7-8 stories, 250k words or so dedicated to changelings, and I desperately need to write something different.
"But Navel, what will you write instead? "
Well, I'm glad you asked. The reason I've discovered I'm burnt out on changelings is that I've begun work on rewriting an older story of mine from the ground up, Dark Aura. In just one month I've written eight chapters, which is a little less than half of the entire story. I've not felt raw inspiration like this since KoLB's earliest chapters, and so I know I must run with it.
For those who never read it, Dark Aura was an Adventure/Thriller crossover with Pokemon, featuring one of my favorite legendaries of all time, Yveltal. The first chapter didn't sit right with me, so I rewrote it from the ground up and things are now going splendidly.
I will be posting Dark Aura like seasons of a show. Eight chapters in advance, posted exactly one week apart with hiatuses in-between. I will be looking for an editor for the story at some point, but for now, I'm making do with Grammarly and self-editing.
Look for Dark Aura within the next few days. And that's all for now! I'm very excited to dabble in a more serious genre and show you all what that looks like.
Aww, okay, understandable, and I bet the Dark Aura story will be really great, good luck with it!
OoooO I believe you’ve said the Pokémon Crossover thing sometime, but knowing Yveltal is in it? Frick yeah!
Really excited for the story!
Oh wow thats awesome can't wait
Just goes to show how much experience you have over me.
But yeah, I think you've written plenty of changeling stories to be enjoyed. Best of luck with Dark Aura.
I suppose you've done a satisfactory amount of buggo stories. Going to kind of miss the way you write the cutest creatures in the multiverse, but I guess that gives some of us time and impetus to work with them ourselves.
As a side note, Yveltal is my least favorite Legendary Pokémon.

Says the person with a dark type avatar! Maybe you'd like him in my depiction.
Indeed, pass the buggo torch to those who also have bug words to write.

Just because Umbreon's the cutest Eeveelution doesn't mean I'm into Dark-Types in general. And my problem with Yveltal is the fact that it's the Pokémon world embodiment of Death. Its signature move explicitly drains the life from the target, which is something that should not happen in Pokémon.

Can't have life without death, and I personally love the idea of there being a reaper Pokemon. All the legendaries are connected to nature or represent abstract parts of life—the Weather Trio represent land, earth, and sky, the Creation Trio represent the different dimensions, the Aura Trio represents the cycle of life, etc.
Sooner or later something was going to represent death, and I'd prefer it to be intense and live up to the monicker than to feel watered down. Even if it does rub some people the wrong way.
Whether you read it or not, thanks for the support.
I had never considered reading Pokemon fanfiction before. I had only tried it once, a story with a Ponyta on this particular site, but it didn't seem that good. But one of the most engrossing stories I've read in years has been Boldores and Boomsticks. Plus before that, I ravenously devoured Nuzlocke comics.

I think you'll enjoy Dark Aura if you give it a try! It's hardly going to be a Pokemon-heavy fic, so even people who aren't Pokemon fans will be able to fully follow along with and enjoy the story. I'm basically injecting a handful of mons' in particular into the FIM-verse and that's it, no heavy-handed references or even mentioning of the human aspect of the Pokeverse. All lore related to the inserted critters will be experienced by the characters in-story.
95% FIM, with just enough Pokemon to make it interesting.
That's a long-looking story! Don't think I'd have the time for it, but that's a cool-sounding premise. Glad you stumbled upon it!

I don't know if you've watched RWBY or not. It's the four protagonist wandering around Pokemon - Japan. And then move on to Alola.
