NaNoWriMo Update · 3:49pm Nov 15th, 2020
Successful is relative.
On the one hand I have been way more lax on writing than NaNoWriMo typically expects - I am clocking in at around 3000 words, plus revisions that one cannot put a word count on. I'm writing every other day or so, even just a little, but I'm not pumping out a huge wordcount.
But I AM pumping out content! I have a single chapter done and ready to go and another chapter well underway and can reasonably expect to finish it and start a third chapter well before the end of the month. So for two chapters and the start of a third from one month of focusing, when I only had about a third a chapter before, I feel good about that. And again, there's revisions going on, plans for the future of the story are coming into clearer focus. I feel we're hitting a stride now.
I really do enjoy writing in this world and these characters. I know things began a bit uneven. I chalk it up to the fact I'm not used to setting up an AU in this level of detail before ever publishing a chapter, and wanted to establish my world firmly. Like, I have backstory and lore notes that haven't even been hinted at yet (but will come into play), and a schedule of everyone's classes so I can consistently name what classes they have at what times and work the subjects they're studying into conversation by knowing who is studying what. So I may have let myself get bogged down in worldbuilding more than the story, because a lot of these classes will probably never be seen directly, just mentioned in passing.
But, this IS where the real meat of the story begins, I promise! Stuff happens, much more stuff than in Part 1, with more frequency and urgency! So I'm very excited to finally be back at this and cannot wait to share it. I'm looking at dropping the first chapter of Part 1 the first Friday of December, so look forward to that. :)
Looking forward to it! :)
