Dungeons and Dragons DM looking for players. (Closed.) · 9:51pm Jul 13th, 2020

I'll be running a one off on roll d20 soonish, (aiming for the 26th) and I was looking for players who may wish to join. Experience not necessary, the game itself will take 1-2 (Plus a session 0) sittings depending on how things go. The level will be fairly low to start off (around level 5). All you do need is a microphone, and to be available at 2:00 PM Sunday Central Time. The length of gameplay will vary but may go late depending on how things shake out. Details to come, drop a comment below if your interested and can make it for that time. If things go well I will be running a much longer game with a much larger world. :)

It would be 5e, no race/class restrictions whatsoever. More details will be forthcoming.

Update: May switch this to the next sunday, ie the 26, depending on how things go.

If you want to keep abreast of the discussion, head on over to my discord.

You might get more replys if you specify what time zone you're referring to.

You might want to add a timezone to that 2 PM time, world's a big place.

And my usual DM would probably get a heart attack if he'd hear someone refer to Lvl. 5 as "fairly low.":twilightsheepish:

Roll20 is an excellent website for remote hosting with lots of features including programming scripts, so I highly recommend it if the GM can afford a subscription for some of the bells and whistles. I'm currently using it for a GURPS My Little Pony system I created (which I might release at some point).

I knew I was forgetting something. Fixed. 5 is low for one offs in my opinion.

The start of a normal game five would be like, really fucking high.

Bruh I really want to take part as I have never played D and D before but because I live half a flippin' world away 2pm for me is 9pm at night :applecry:

Most oneshots I've played so far were more around level 3, but that might only be us.

There was, however, that one time we played the opening of Curse of Strahd at a con as a oneshot. Using level 1 characters, as prompted by it. It was insane. We barely made it, and only then becuase the DM was nice and we had to rush through the ending due to time running out that evening.

I might be up for that, 5E right?

Fuck it, baring anything coming up I will give a go!

Do I need to set up a character beforehand and how in-depth does it need to be? Any Race or Class restrictions?

roll20 is rather shit. Use https://foundryvtt.com/ instead.
Having used roll20 every week for the last 2+ years... it is quite shitty.

5e no race/class restrictions.

Ah, excellent. Given that I've been playing the same character in all the games I've ever played, I really don't know what I'd do if I had to make a change.

I’d be interested. If you have questions about roll20, I could give you some pointers, and help with building sheets.

You dont need sleep. You need dungeons and dragons.
5308099
Still deciding between that and one other system/program right now.

In my opinion, if you are just starting or doing a single 1shot, Roll20 works very well. If you were going to go all out and run multiple campaigns, Fantasy Grounds Unity. If you want a web based, since FG and FGU are installed, I’d go with Foundry VTT. If you have questions or would want to talk, you can pm me and I’ll send my discord tag.

I think if you saw the amount of detail that went into the GURPS system in Roll20 you would change your mind. The character sheet manages rules and rolls with incredible depth.

Tiwake got me the foundry trial so I think we'll try out that. Sometime this weekend I think I'll give it a shot and just test the software with someone. But I'll worry about that later.

Alass working at that time but I wish you and your group fun times!

I miss my wizard orc that slapped things with mage hand...

oh I'm quite aware how powerful it is... with great power comes great buggy shit though. However they did the back-end programming, it is not good.

I've built char sheets in roll20 with all that weird stuff like +[[@{Constitution_mod}]], and having done quite a bit of programming myself in Java, C, and some others, I feel qualified to say roll20 is shit. Foundry Virtual TableTop's backend is written with node.js -- not normally something I would endorse for web development, in spite of its popularity, the way they are using node.js makes a lot of sense. At this point Foundry VTT's development is rather feature rich, and is much more flexible at the same time. Not to mention they don't bother with the whole microtransaction or subscription shit that plagues the game world today. Pay once, you get all the features forever, can host your own games with as many files as you could possibly want, and even share the license with other people if you really want... they don't care.

This is why independent game developers are getting so popular these days.

as long as the whole thing takes place on the 19th i can do it, im off that day but i work the day before and the day after...what source are we going with i don't think im up to par on the latest ponyfinder stuff and the stuff i dm i just pick whatever version of the rules mostly lets me do what i want and house rule the rest so yeah my knowledge of the rulesets is spoty and patchy so id need to know ahead of time so i can study up and make sure i dont get my rulesets all mixed up...might have to make a new charicter too if your not useing templets.

5308233
5e not much homebrew for the one off, and I think we may move it to the 26th, depends on how much work I get done during the week.

5308233
I think I may actually move it to the 26th as I have alot to do. Would you still be in if that was the case?

I'm interested but I need sleep before I can ask questions.

5308334
the 26th *checks schedule* i can swing that sure, once again so long as it all takes place during that day

5308258
fifth edtion...as in DnD (pathfinder is only up to 2 or 3e iirc) crap i will need to make a new charicter
my charicter is illegal by DnD rules i think (technically hes a monster character kitsune in human form)

so yeah ill have to grab a new character sheet and rerole if your not providing templet characters for a pre built campaign

If this is still open I would be up for it! I'm familiar with the game and roll20 so I could pretty much just jump right in.

Sounds good! First game is this sunday. More info is on my discord which is linked above. Its going to be at level 5, I'd advise you talk to the other players in the dungeons of eberath ooc discussion sub channel to make srue you arent 5 stacking wizards or something.

Other then that all you need to know is that its going to be fairly rules lite. We've switched to a different program, and its a custom setting that may get expanded on after. :) If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

How would I be able to join if I am able?

5352649
I'm afraid that technical difficulties have since made this impossible. Sorry my freind.

5352688
It's fine. But when and if it ever happens again feel free to contact me for a campaign.
