Experiencing Technical Difficulties · 1:05am Nov 21st, 2012
So yeah, my labtop did me the disservice of crashing and burning yesterday evening after years of faithful (if gradually degrading) service. So as a result I pretty much lost my entire digital library. Music, pictures and art, videos, PDFs,my notes for Study, and many many other files. A library I am in the middle of rebuilding with the new labtop I bought. Luckily I can recover most of what I care about, with time and effort anyways. Also all my bookmarks are saved thanks to Chrome and its whole setup, so I didn't lose track of all the stories I have and plan on reading. So that's good news.
As a result of this and Turkey Day coming up, my typing is going to be slowed up a little bit. But hopefully for not too many days depending on exactly how events play out. Luckily everything I had typed up for the one shot I'm working on are all on a GoogleDoc, Safely stored away from my old laptops sudden but inevitable demise.
So I hope to have a bit of patience while I get everything back in working order and spend some time to enjoy the holidays with family. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.
Good luck Poni, hopefully you won't lose too much And happy Turkey Day to you and your family
Dang, that sucks. You can probably get someone to move all the stuff from your hard drive on to another one if you lost anything important.
Thank goodness for Chrome and Google docks.
Sucks about the laptop though.
Dude. Buy an external hard drive. They're cheap. Back your stuff up this time! I make an image of my Windows and data partitions after each Update Tuesday.
Yeesh, that sucks. That happened to me a little over a year ago and I still haven't gotten it all back. I'm lucky that it wasn't anything important, mostly just music and bookmarks.
Good luck with your new computer!
Protip: Make backups

Not my first choice, believe me. If this thing could run what I need from Windows in VMs, I'd be running Linux as my primary OS. Unfortunately, I'm stuck doing it the other way 'round, because reasons.
523135 What are you using that requires Wandows?
Heh, I feel you man.
I've lost notes for my story and most of what I've written to computer problems before as well.

Work-related software that doesn't play well with virtualization. Rather than constantly rebooting, I run my Linux in a VM instead.

Does it manage to get past Wandows sucking the speed out of your system?

It does when I run something like Lubuntu, then change the WM to Awesome, and run whatever I can from the terminal.
Oh, and backups are done with G4L (ghost for Linux) run off a live-USB. I'm no Linux guru, but I grew up on a command line.
so was that a hard drive failure poni? If it was some mobo problem or otherwise, you could try taking the hdd out and plugging it into a desktop to recover the files

Ouch, sorry to hear about your troubles.
