    What to name Puzzle’s organization?

So as many of you have no doubt noted in Freeport Venture: Tears in the Rain, there’s going to be some restructuring within Puzzle’s organization. Among those changes will be Puzzle giving his organization an actual name. Though as of this moment I haven’t found a name that I’m satisfied with yet, so I thought I would turn to my many wonderful readers and see if they could come up with

    Winningverse/Freeport Venture/ Lunar Rebellion Timeline

Below is a general timeline of significant events in the main continuity to give an idea of how everything is ordered, even if this is by no means a comprehensive list of events. Things are also subject to change as new stories are written, and we come up with new ideas with which to expand on.

Winningverse/Freeport/Rising Fire and Other AU's Explained

With the publishing of Rising Fire I couldn’t help but notice that there was a bit of confusion of what is and isn’t canon in the Winningverse, and how everything is interrelated with one another. BronyCon 2019: The End of an Era

There is something inherently sad about something coming to an end. Something unique and wonderful is now over, and I found myself writing this at the airport and on the airplane, waiting, leaving Baltimore, perhaps for the last time. It’s as I do so that I contemplate the past, present, and future both for myself and the fandom.

Winningverse/Freeport/Rising Fire and Other AU's Explained · 8:12pm Sep 13th, 2019

With the publishing of Rising Fire I couldn’t help but notice that there was a bit of confusion of what is and isn’t canon in the Winningverse, and how everything is interrelated with one another. So I decided to write up this blog post in the hopes of clearing some stuff up. In truth, I’ve been thinking about making a few posts for the Winningverse group forum for a FAQ and an updated lore page (since the old one is pretty dated by this point). So this is a bit of a preview of that, so tell me what you think, and what you might like to see for the future.

Below is an explanation of some story groupings and briefly how they’re related to one another.

Main Continuity
The Winningverse, Freeport Venture, Lunar Rebellion stories all belong to the same main continuity, and cover different aspects of this universe.

Winning Pony Series
Series about the life and times of Cloud Kicker and the ponies in her life. Part of the continuity of the main universe, and runs concurrently with the events of the show. The events of the show are reflected here.

Where to start:
The Incredibly Dense Mind of Rainbow Dash by Chengar Qordath
The Life and Times of a Winning Pony by Chengar Qordath

Winning Pony Side Stories
The Winningverse contains a variety of side stories covering a wide range of characters, conflicts, and genres, all of which are considered canon to the main universe. Some stories are stand-alone while others are tied directly into other stories like The Life and Times of a Winning Pony.

Example stories:
Twilight Sparkle vs. the Haunted Mailbox by Ponibius
The Incredibly Apologetic Letters of Rainbow Dash by Chengar Qordath
Princess Twilight's Profoundly Peripheral Protector by Chengar Qordath
Anything But the Gala by Ponibius
The Incredibly Cool Godmother of Dinky Doo by Trinary

Freeport Venture
After a confrontation with Princess Celestia, instead of fleeing into the mirror to the Equestria Girls universe, Sunset Shimmer goes on the run, and flees to the infamous island nation of Freeport. There Sunset must deal with a den of pirates, criminals, and exiles to survive and establish herself as a powerful magus. Part of the main universe, occurring before or concurrently with the events in the Winning Pony series, depending on the story.

Where to start:
A Moment in the Sun by Chengar Qordath
The Freeport Venture by Chengar Qordath

The Lunar Rebellion
100 years after Nightmare Moon’s banishment, Equestria erupts into civil wars. The stories from this era in Equestria’s history deal with the Lunar Rebellion or its consequences. Part of the main universe. This is part of the historical background to the Winning Pony series and the Freeport Venture, as well as the related Rising Fire stories.

Where to start:
The Lunar Rebellion by Chengar Qordath
Midnight’s Shadow by Ponibius

Rising Fire Series
Thanks to Starlight’s attempts to use time travel to get revenge on Twilight, an alternate timeline was created where the Elements of Harmony failed to stop Nightmare Moon And Celestial was forced to kill her sister. Sombra later returned and launched a brutal war against Equestria. But when Twilight corrected the timeline this timeline was nearly destroyed, resulting in the creation of Rising Fire. Rising now seeks revenge against those that destroyed her world. Considered a part of the main continuity due to interacting with it regularly.

What to read:
Freeport Venture: Blood and Iron by Chengar Qordath
Freeport Venture: Come And See by Chengar Qordath
Rising Fire by Chengar Qordath & Ponibius

Alternate Universes
These are the stories that aren't a direct part of the main continuity, though all of them draw elements from the main continuity to varying levels.

Phoenixverse
Taking place after the Lunar Rebellion, this series takes place in an alternate universe where Sunbeam Sparkle, a figure from the Lunar Rebellion series, becomes an immortal alicorn and ruler of Equestria, and then creates the Phoenix Empire.

What to read:
Rise of the Phoenix Empress by Chengar Qordath
Tales from the Phoenix Empire

Equestria Girls: Oncoming Storm
This series consists of the Winningverse’s Equestria Girls stories. Though these stories take place in a universe where Sunset Shimmer goes through the portal to the world of Equestria Girls instead of going to Freeport. When they interact with ponies it’s in an Equestria based on the Winning Pony series, albeit a variant of it that is not part of the main continuity due to the Sunset Shimmer divergence.

Where to start:
Oncoming Storm: Surface Tension by Chengar Qordath

Dead-Derpy-Verse
An alternate universe that centers around Derpy Doo dying of brain cancer.

Where to start:
From the Mouths of Fillies by Comma-Kazie
When Goodbye Comes Too Soon by Comma-Kazie
Through Death and Life by Chengar Qordath

The Road Not Taken
An alternate universe where Cloud Kicker and Fluttershy keep dating after flight camp and eventually marry.

Where to start:
Winning Pony: Road Not Taken by Chengar Qordath

Dresden Files/MLP Crossover
A crossover between the Dresden Files and My Little Pony. It doesn’t have much to do with the main continuity other than using similar characterization.

Where to start: My Little Denerian by Chengar Qordath

I’ll probably be posting this up later as part of a FAQ post on the Winningverse. Did you find this helpful? Are there any subjects any of you would like to see address for a FAQ or lore post? It wouldn’t surprise me if you guys had at least a few questions floating around for our stories.

Hm, I don't think I was having particular trouble keeping things straight, but still, useful; thanks.

As for lore topics... Well, I'd quite understand you not wanting to reveal it, but I am still curious what the authorial intent for what was really going on during the Lunar Rebellion was. :)
As I recall, you did say something about us picking up on some things few other people did, even if I'd be surprised if we were even mostly right regarding what you meant to put behind things.

:And The Incredibly Interesting Days of a Little Sparkle is totally Canon to everything. :trollestia:

Fairly simple multiverse, all things considered. It's all Winning unless it flagrantly violates some precept thereof.

The only addition to this list that would be helpful for some would be a timeline, showing when the freeport stories happen in relation to the winning pony stories, as there has been a lot of speculation as to when Sunset left Celestia, how much older than Twilight she is and if most of the Freeport stories happen prior to episode 1 of the series (ie Nightmare moon and ponyville for Twilight).

Thanks for all of the wonderful stories and the universe you have created. They are some of my absolute favourites on here :)

Good news then, we’ve got a timeline in the works as well.

Ooh, awesome sauce!! You sir, are a legend!

5120632
What specific things are you referring to? Since the whole Lunar Rebellion is a pretty big and complicated thing with lots of moving parts to it.

5120656
Totally. The Incredibly Interesting Days of a Little Sparkle is a bit of an odd one where to consider it in canon.

Oh! I suppose it has actually been a while on the order of years, hasn't it?
I'm one of the people who looked at the story and came up with the interpretation that, to put it briefly, Shadow and Sunbeam secretly colluded to cause the war and then manipulate much of it (not always, but overall, successfully, with the Avatar of Nightmare Moon being the most significant case of the plan going off the rails) from behind the scenes, then further reinforced their version of events in the history books.

Awesome, now I won't get lost reading it all

I wouldn't say that Shadow and Sunbeam were responsible for the war. Shadow didn't really want a war that ended up destroying her home nation, especially when she was far from convinced Celestia could even win against the military power of Pegasopolis. From her perspective Pegasopolis was in a far better military position, and Unicornia spent most of the war on the defensive, with Canterlot under siege and fighting for its life. If not for its leadership problems, Pegasopolis might even have taken the city and won the war.

Sunbeam didn't want a war either. She knows that wars are inherently risky things, and a war with Pegasopolis doubly so. Nightmare Moon participating in the conflict wasn't something she could have predicted, and things could have gotten really ugly if foreign nations had gotten involved. She was far more confident in her ability to negotiate and bring Equestria together through diplomatic means. She took advantage of the war once it started (curbing the power of the Unicornian nobility for one), but it wasn't part of her original designs.

Though I will say that Sunbeam totally wrote the history books that favored Celestia and the Solar cause. She hyped Celestia's participation in the war, while also casting most of the blame for the war on Swift Blade as a scapegoat.

Interesting; thanks!
(Though I probably will keep holding my interpretation/headcanon; not as if I didn't already expect it didn't match authorial intent. :))
