Is this stupid? · 2:51am May 4th, 2020
As most of you know, I hardly swear. I don’t really know why, I just don’t swear that much. Expect, in Frontlines. In that story, I drop more swears than a South Park episode. I don’t know why I’m like this, I just am. Is that weird/stupid or no?
Nah. I never swear myself, yet I use swears in certain stories-only when it's appropriate. If you're stupid/weird for that I am too.

I don’t think it’s stupid/weird, but I really just wanted to get other people’s opinions on this
5255647
Ah. Well you have my vote for "not stupid".
5255658
Aye!
Funny thing about war... it's very vulgar. So..... no, not stupid. I know war vets that cuss more than a 9yo COD player.
5255679
Fair enough

Funny thing about my comments... I tend to edit them after posting them, sometimes even the next day. Sometimes I do it randomly to mess with people.
5255681
Double fair enough
5255682
do you know what a Stag is?
5255683
A deer?
5255684
yes, a male deer.
Do you know what a Stag Beetle is?
5255685
A beetle with deer antlers?
5255687
You might know then, I know a few people who didn't.
Fun fact for those who didn't know! Thorax's "antlers" are modeled after the mandibles on a Stag Beetle. A Stag is also a male deer. Hence, Deer Bug!
Deers also symbolize peace, and tranquility.
5255688
Huh, I never noticed that
5255689
Thorax was designed quite intentionally you see. He symbolizes the change to peacefully creatures, while also having a cute little reference. Smart...
The detail is One of the reasons I like the show.
5255694
Wow, that’s such a great detail

Random question. Have you ever dressed up as a trex and went out into public with a Bluetooth speaker, blasting the godzilla millennium theme? While also chasing people with a reach grabber toy with a Dino head as the grabby end?

Yep
Take it from a philologist. One should not be ashamed of the way they speak, for every word has a purpose. Soldiers do not simply swear a lot, swearing is essential for them to get a message across.
Let's say you are flying a B-17 somewhere over Germany and you get hit by Flak. Engines and wind roar just outside your splintered window. You have your 18-year-old co-pilot, who clenches his wheel in panic. but you need him to go back to the bomb bay and check up on the rest of your crew if any of them need help.
First, you need him to snap out of stupor. Now, how are you going to do that without swearing? You gotta get his attention and with all of the stuff happening that is going to take something more than simply shouting at him.
Swearings are very useful words in general. They allow you to get your point across quickly and efficiently. Some people legitimately can't understand what you mean without it. There are entire languages that rely on swearing to simply function. Russian is the most vibrant example, you simply can't talk with common Russians without swearing, they simply don't get your meaning. The Russian language even has a unique category of words that not a single other language has. It's called "Mut" (Maт). This is the specific category for vulgar swearings. Words like "говно" (shit) and "хуй" (dick) are not even considered vulgar enough to be publically impermissible. You can sometimes even hear Russian officials swear in their speeches, imagine that in any other country.

Yeah, that’s true
Let me just say that I am sincerely glad none of my family are telepaths.

5256068
