Killing off young children just for the sake of shock value is a cheap, dirty, evil thing to do. If you are going to kill off kids, build their character up first, so when they die, you as a reader lose something. And the annoying children usually don't have much character to begin with, so that means killing them off would do absolutely nothing.

Also, is it a coincidence that you used Willy Wonka to talk about children getting offed in a story?

I was really referencing all those comments that people make about how "Nyaaah, the kids cry to much in these monster or alien invasion movies! I wish they'd die so we could get back to the action! I do, actually. I volunteer at the 4-5 year olds area of my church every second Sunday.

I just feel like that kind of talk is in very poor taste, especially after the multitude of real-world school shootings–like the aforementioned Sandy Hook shooting–that have occurred in real life. You'd think people would have a different tune after that kind of thing.

And as I've said below, I honestly don't blame a child for screaming/crying hysterically as they see aliens vaporizing their neighbors or something like that. We brush past it because it's a movie, but if it happened in real life, it would horrify the world.

I don't blame her either. In one night, the poor kid has found her "grandfather" murdered by a man they both trusted, discovered that she's actually a human clone (which is outright illegal in the state of California, might I add), and then got chased around by a psycho dinosaur hybrid monster. I'd probably break down crying too after a night like that.
