Okay, so those who saw the latest chapter of A Deer Named John and actually looked at the author notes will have glimpsed this already. But here it is in greater detail and for those who have not seen the note.
That right there is a work in progress commission from Mix-up. It also, when I saw it for the first time at five in the morning, made me barely able to comprehend what I was seeing.
That right there is John, dear deer John. Looking just as anxious as she seems to be throughout much of the story A Deer Named John.
I cannot thank Mix-up enough for this fantastic picture. It is the first time I have seen any character I have created with words, here or elsewhere, come to life and stare back at me as if to say, “Please don’t put me through this.”
Sorry John. You’re a protagonist. It is what you do.
Now, very much back to Mix-up. I’ve seen images made by Mix-up as story art before, most notably to me for goldfur’s story Off The Mark.
What drew me most to Mix-up’s work was how well the characters were captured. There is one particular picture over on their deviantart page which is from Fallout Equestria Resistance. It depicts a pony in Enclave power armour. The moment I saw it, I heard the voice of Pinkie in my head from a scene in the original Fallout Equestria. She said, “Dashie’s scary!” And wow did that picture capture the nature of the armour Kkat described!
If you want to see it, go look through Mix-up’s deviantart page here. And while there, make sure you check out the rest of the art. The Strider MK-2T made me laugh because it reminded me of a ponified Evangelion video, even though the image is of ponified Warhammer. Just where my thoughts went.
If you’re looking for Mix-up on FiMFiction, try over here. You could always send a PM for a commission of your own.
I didn't comment on the story because my comment was long enough already, but it's nice to have a face to put on John. I had originally pictured her more as a smaller version of Bambi's mom, hehe.
That's very impressive artwork. It's not just the facial expression that's stunning, but the entire body language has been captured beautifully.
You're lucky to have such a talented friend as Mix-up
