D&D: why the new OGL is really bad

There's some controversy right now about the new OGL (Open Gaming License) published by Wizards of the Coast, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons.

I don't talk about D&D here a lot, since I know it's not relevant to Fimfiction, but I think it's worth getting this news out. Also they're owned by Hasbro, the same company that own MLP, so it's worth knowing what they're up to.

Pre-announcing the Season 10 Bingo Writing Contest · 9:36am Nov 3rd, 2019

In two weeks I'm going to launch a new writing contest.

This is a sequel to my previous writing contest, which had a unique premise: each contestant was issued a randomly generated prompt card with five characters, locations or concepts on it. They were asked to write a story that incorporated as many of the ideas on their card as possible.

I'm making some refinements this time, particularly to making prompts that are more fair and more interesting. Some of them will be combo cards like this:

I'm adding in characters from recent seasons, removing characters that are comics only, and improving the randomizer so you don't end up with useless combinations.

There'll be prizes this time, and I'm borrowing an idea from another contest and asking for a few editors to make themselves available to the contestants. I like well-edited stories!

More details when the doors open in two weeks.

Oh, this will be fun. Looking forward to it!

Ooh! Fun!
The bingo generator itself may have outlived its original purpose, but that contest was immensely fun last year and I'm very keen to enter it again! I liked the slightly more relaxed timeframe compared to most contests (such as FOME's current one, which has me still frantically writing and the fic maybe halfway done with 6 days to go...)

Yeah, I've officially given up on getting my Imposing Sovereign done in time. I'll finish it but not that quickly. I'm still debating the exact timeline for this contest (since there's no "start of season 10" to pin it to), but it'll be longer than that.
