“Alright, now tell me my dear friend, what inspired your username?
Response: Full disclosure: I went through an ICP phase in highschool, which is where the ‘Juggalo’ part comes from. Even to this day, though I’ve moved on, I will ALWAYS recommend a live show, even if you don’t like their music, purely for the environment and fun. Word of advice: leave your phone in the car and wear some clothes you don’t mind throwing out - they like to spray soda as one of their stage trademarks.
Regarding ‘Hylian’ I always liked Zelda, one of the first games I played growing up. And I stuck with that and continued to enjoy those games well into the modern day.
“What drew you into Mlp?
Response: I was initially against it. I came from 4Chan before /mlp existed, and I partook in the anti-brony crusade so to speak, back when they first got involved on the site. That changed obviously; in college I met some bronies, they introduced me to the show, and gave it a chance, and had one specific episode that caught my attention - Party of One
“Who is your favorite pony and why?
Response: Applejack, simply because I have a respect for the concept of family. Because so many people in my age group were growing up in disjointed homes. I was fortunate I had a caring family, and I believe my life success has been largely influenced by the fact that I had such a stable upbringing compared to many of my peers.
“Favorite episode and why?”
Response: Baby Cakes, because it was just so mind numbly adorable, and that was the episode that got me into the show. Like I said, I was introduced through people in college.
“What inspires you to write?”
Response: Largely, life experiences of me, and anyone else in my immediate circle of family. My father was in the military, serving in the Marines and National Guard, so the story I wrote had a lot to do with the military - or, more accurately, the concepts that military personnel hold true - sacrifice, duty, honor and the like. Having survived and overcome life-threatening disabilities, I was never able to join, as much as I wanted to. Still, adapting to extreme life changes - a part of such disabilities - is also clear in my writing..
“Tell us about your favorite story, and why it inspires you to write. It doesn't have to be mlp specifically!”
Response: Honestly it comes from mlp, “Anthopology”. Without spoiling too much, Lyra is a human, goes back to Earth and meets friends there to save it from Discord. I fell in love with it, it inspired me because before the EQG came into existence the concept of HIE was a debatable one.
2012-13 was considered the ‘golden era’ of HiE, which is when I wrote my story as well. I wanted to buck the trends of the self-insert, and riding on the back of the creepypasta craze at the time. My story, when I set out to write it, was me simply wanting to be as edgy as possible - I wanted to be the next ‘shockfic’, a la Cupcakes. Eventually, I took it more seriously and tried to write a cohesive, engaging story based around horror and action. Ultimately, it was a love letter to video games, and an unofficial sequel to BEN Drowned.
“Give us the background of the author! Tell us all about you. Well in a short summary.
Response: I’ve always had an appreciation for those that serve a purpose greater than themselves. On a personal note, as mentioned previously, that mindset came from growing up in a military household. Though, now I work as a network engineer for a very large medical company - I know my purpose - making sure doctors and such have the proper information that they need at all times, by maintaining their servers we keep operating. I know the stuff I do can be the difference between life and death for some; even if my original plans of being a soldier are medically impossible, I know I’m making a difference in my current position.
“Is there anything else you’d like to say?”
Response: I appreciate that this fandom has allowed me to make many great friends, and learn about what healthy relationships actually are. It has definitely changed my life for the better. Since the ending of the series, I will be around for the foreseeable future and am excited for Gen 5.
