The MMDW Rogue Gallery · 6:27pm Oct 25th, 2019

Every heroes got to have their own galleries of villains, right?

1.
The Flories — forgotten villains of G1. The Flories are vampiric plant-like monsters that suck the life out from the earth and other plants in order to get stronger. MLP versions of Darkwing Duck’s Bushroot.
2. Princess Porcina — I hate this pig. She shouldn’t even be reformed. She’s crazy obsessed with her reflection and was out to turn the whole world into her looking glass, even living creatures into crystal statues, just so she can look at herself wherever she goes. She tried to kidnap ponies to shave their manes to repair her worn out cape.
3.
Squrik — first off, mind-blown that he was in the MLP:FiM snow this whole time, trapped inside Doctor Whoove’s tank, straight from G1! He’s MLP version of Darkwing Duck’s Liquidator, Disney’s Ursula, Spider-Man’s Doc Ock, and Joe from Help! I’m a Fish!

“Let me explain to you something about crime bosses! Soon as one goes down, every punk with a gun, a tracksuit, and a drawer full of good chains decides he’s the next godfather!” — J. Jonah Jameson.

In the wake of Queen Chrysalis’s defeat, it gives the rise to some more bug—themed baddies.

4. Queen Bumble — a gluttonous anthropomorphic queen bee who feeds on honey in order to reproduce, like normal bees. Her entire swarms were exiled to a frozen tundra, where there’s barely any flowers. The bugbear is their predator.
5. Insidira the Spider Queen — Technically, she’s more an arachnid, but still.

All of these baddies definitely sound rather promising, hence forth I think a chance to go over each one is in slight order. Now bear in mind, it's been quite some time since I've seen the 80s show so some of these Rogues may be relatively unknown to me. But with that in mind, I'll certainly do my best to process these potential candidates:

1. You would think that vampire-like plant monsters would sound threatening, creatures of unknown origins aiming to suck the life of the Earth and its plants to be strong. And yet, at the same time, if it seems like that's all these creatures are known for and not so much threatening towards the ponies themselves it's no wonder why they are forgotten. I think if the goal with this series is to bring in villains that are truly threatening or expand upon what little is known with these creatures, perhaps if they did more than just drain the life on plants and rather discover that the inner magic within each pony (Even Earth Ponies) provides more than enough sustenance to be stronger, powerful beings then it would be vital to take these 'Flories' seriously. Heck, even the spores they leave behind on any helpless being may pretty much be their calling card as if that one plant that nearly turned Zecora into a tree was bad enough (Unless that plant in general was experimented on to become more dangerous than ever, a living walking entity spewing potential illness and death to any that comes across it).

2. If the intent is to maintain a villain, or a villainous in this case, as irredeemable as possible then this Porcina chick is definitely going to need an EXTREME makeover (And I'm not just talking appearances). We are looking at a specimen who is clearly obsessed with her compulsion and what she perceives as beautiful, even though I would understand why fans argue that she's a Miss Piggy knock-off. It's one thing to turn creatures into glass or crystal, kidnapping others just to shave their manes to form a cape, but is that more than enough to perceive her as a threat? This almost makes me think of the mirrors in 'Little Nightmares' that either shows what you want to see or makes you think you are looking at (Like the Geisha thinking that her face is ugly, when it could be a deception on the mirror's own magic). Since we already have mirrors with the capability of transporting ponies to a dimension where humans preside in their place, some form of magic will definitely be needed to determine if Porcina can be dangerous (Or very well design a character based on this 80s rendition).

3. I'll admit this Squirk character is one villain from the series I've never heard of, but the fact that he was pointed out as that creature trapped in Doctor Whoove's (a.k.a. Time Turner's) tank definitely has some indication. It appears that he's either been in deep hibernation that the chamber itself is forcing him into or that could be another squid that bears a striking resemblance to the villain of old that the pony happened to discover and kept around for science. If the former is true, eventually a fault within the system will stir the beast awake and naturally the first thing he'll want to do is finish what he started depending on how long he's been locked away. I'd hate to imagine if a pony who's interest in science for good intentions may drastically end up involved, perhaps as a reluctant prisoner to this mad figure, but if anything to raise the stakes and display what this beastie is capable of would make for stirring storytelling. In some way, it be an educational experience for those who have no idea who he is and how he wants to be remembered.

4. Considering we've spent years dealing with Changelings, bugbears, and even little creatures who's sting literally feels like being hit by lightning, we'd have to wonder what Queen Bumble and her bees have to offer. She seems like a typical bee, feeding on the honey reproduced by her drones and possibly having another set of bees who defend the hive. Then there's this story of being exiled in the frozen north, considering we have a location in mind in this universe of MLP (Whether it's near the Yaks home or even near where the Crystal Empire resides in hiding) the trick will be to determine how Queen Bumble would stick out. After all, we cannot forget she was 'also' a reformed villain who unlike Chrysalis cared for the well being of her people and needed the flowers in order to survive. I think the treatment for this character is going to take a great deal of thought.

5. Now I have no idea who this Insidira is, but I can only assume based on the description she sounds like a character from the comics. There's bound to be some questions that a non-reader of the comics like me has itching: Is she practically a gigantic spider or just a normal sized arachnid with surprising deceptive power? On the latter note, what she would lack in size she must hold some magic of her own to bend her subjects at will and for such a tiny frame comes a great mind striving to rule beyond the boundaries she already has. She may not have the deceitful nature of Chrysalis, but when it comes to incorporating villains into a potential series we'd want to see how this little 'Queen' would stand out in a sea of villains that have come before and after. If anything, she could surprisingly end up being a major antagonist compared to all the villains we are seeing but it's all going to depend on how the story chooses to approach this fascinating specimen.

Actually, Insidira is from the official MLP tabletop game, Tails of Equestria.

Is there something you can add about this character? It seems the description pretty much gives most of it, but as you can see I know 'zip'.

If I may ask, will Grogar be in your main fic?

I forgot to include Hydia.....and her two daughters Reeka and Draggle.

I don’t like the G1 movies very much, but I definitely remember that Hydia was determined to ruin Equestria to make it fit to her own liking, and she went as far as to go in cahoots with Queen Bumble.

Now I’m thinking of making Hydia as MLP version of Magica de Spell.

You know, that's actually not a bad idea. While probably not as famous as villains as Tirek, Catrina or even Tirek, Hydia and her daughters did what they could to ruin the lives of the ponies. It was even through them that the smooze was created in the first place, destroying their castle, taking their 'Rainbow of Light' and with it's goo unleashed the negative emotions out of anyone that came in contact with. Now granted if we still aim to go for a modern approach, these three would really have to step up their game to demonstrate that they are truly threatening given that they have mainly been comical.

Now in regards to having Hydia portrayed as MLP's Magica de Spell, that could translate into a lot of things. We've seen how Magica was like, particularly in the reboot, and looking at Hydia she may be in need of an EXTREME makeover to say the least. But I'd like to think rather than just appearances, her motivations will need to be drastically altered to show that as a modern villain she is one we can count on to be an indefinite threat to Equestria. If anything, it would be like that long awaited appearance that G4 couldn't pull off and I'd be anxious to see how that turns out.

Now of course on this note, villains 'can' collaborate with each other if they have a common goal in mind. Besides Bumble and Hydia, whom they have worked together on one occasion, surprisingly what if we included the alliance between Bumble and the Flories? I know what you must be thinking: What could they possibly have in common? As we know with the bees, they need the pollen from these plants and by spreading all of that around they can grow more flowers (As bad of a movie as it may be, 'Bee Movie' expressed importance of how bees are needed for flowers). If going by the proposal that if the Flories were expanded to absorb magic out of the ponies and the bees were to take that in, Bumble and her army would prove to be rather powerful and in doing so forming a strong alliance.
