I was right. I callled it so damn hard with this entire story.

An abundance of Chaos magic can cause a sort of mutation and without an understanding of how it's used, can backfire or just not plain work.

Notice that when he steals magic by eating it, it is converted into physical and magical power. He never EVER demonstrates using the abilities of others, and only has laser and telekinesis as his magic.

Also notice he was going to cast a spell to release the power of the bell. He could have eaten it, hell, he could have eaten it greedily behind the other's back. But he didn't, and it seems the bell's power can only be released by said spell. It's safe to say that, given the transformation of Chrysalis and Cozy, that Grogar's magic is an amalgamation of pony magic he has absorbed. Which for Tirek, it's just a basic form of magic that wouldn't cause a hideous transformation. (Like when Twilight got the power of the other Alicorns)

By the extent, Chaos magic seems to cause mutation and madness to those not versed in it. without eating the power, and instead absorbing it, it would be easy to guess it would mutate even Tirek.

Notice, when Tirek eats Discord's magic back in season 4, he has no chaos powers to speak of.

It's the best explanation i have, and seems to hold up, i think.

Ok, that does make a lot of sense though I have already thought of a few ways past this he is not that smart when it comes to finding loopholes so It makes sense he didn't figure them out. Just for the record the two main ways he could have gotten past this is
1) after cozy absorbed the magic he absorbes the magic from her the normal way converting it.
2) after the other two cast the spell to release the power he just opens his mouth and absorbs it mid-air.
I think you are right I am just saying that the writers didn't think of this.

I mean, it'd just be converted to power. unless he was that power hungry, he could easily just continue stealing magic. he was obviously still sticking by the pact, or else he may very well have done that.
