My Final Thoughts... · 8:32am Nov 1st, 2023
I just want to give my final thoughts on the 2 books and mini-books, as a memory.
Book 1: The one that started it all. A story that wasn't supposed to go beyond even 10k words. I wrote this thing over five years ago, when i was healthier and younger. I remember all I wanted to do, when it became clear this was for the long haul, that I wanted this to be different from other AiEs. I wanted the characters to feel real and canonical, for their lives not to focus on Anon, and for Anon to not be the end all be all. Anon isn't perfect, he's sometimes a likable little moron, and sometimes a hateable douche, but he is never one who can truly twist the fates of others by being the MC. I liked mostly everything I wrote for Book 1, minus some of the beginning and nearly everything after the Flim Flam arc. I wanted to do more with Book 1 back then, but the readers... Well, not just the readers. The story originally started on a simple prompt thread before /children of chaos/. And even before that, threads were popping up just asking me to continue the story (This is the same way my jack spicer story ended up being complete, /mlp/ kept making threads for me to continue). It then eventually became the /CoC/ and my story got slightly hijacked with wants of crossovers, it is how Scrappy got his name after all. Oh, also Twilight week sucks, I guess. I remember how I ended the story, with such a bitter taste. I just wanted it to be over, so I could just make a few lighthearted side adventures. Though, in the end, the only one that was even worth publishing was...
Daring Do mini-book: Another greentext conversion. It was simple, I just wanted to throw Anon into a situation to turn a Daring Do adventure on its head without him being overpowered. I had, at least once, wanted him to just do some adventuring that wasn't in an alternate timeline while not using any characters I had already used. Fun ending, I think, even if it is a little eye rolly.
Movie Book: The first story fully intended for FiMfiction. I had a lot of fun writing this one, getting to write and expand on the movie characters while getting Anon out of his element. Ironically, Capper and Grubber were probably my favorites to write, up until Tempest got redeemed. But man, getting to write the Storm King. Maybe I overdid it, but I felt I got his character down, he was a fun villain to write for. Overall, a fun write.
Book 2: oh boy, Book 2. I'll admit, I did not have as much fun writing Book 2 as I did Book 1, minus a few bits (Hyrule Campaign, having warmed up to Chrysalis, and anything Starlight related being my favs. Oh, Luna was super fun to write for too, the part where she tries to eat the burger is my favorite part of book 2, slightly edging out "Why two mares:The sexening". Really, it was the young six that did it, having to write them all mostly together makes things super tough. No, really, you want to know why 99% of the stories on FimFiction never have more than 5 or 6 characters together in a room unless its kept simple? That's why, because you have to keep track of every single little moving part and it hurts the mind. It also didn't help that by this point, my health had become worse (Finally, finally got an actual diagnosis of Jugular Stenosis) and I was afraid I wouldn't get things finished. The book was supposed to be longer, as Anon was supposed to have an adventure with each of the six, but only really ended up doing a thing with Ocellus and Yona. There was supposed to be a whole bit with Sandbar and Cozy tagging along on an adventure to the Crystal Empire, with Cozy getting some of the anti-magic material secretly for endgame, but it was cut. Now, I haven't mentioned much of Discord himself in most of my blogs, so I'll write how i felt writing him here.
I love Discord, I love everything about him. Despite being the titular character, Chrysalis was the one who basically took over the spot as Anon's number two. But deep down, I knew Discord belonged there. Every moment, every scene, no matter how he is acting, is always a blast to write. To the point that the finale, with him beating Cozy, is my favorite epic moment from both books (While, I'll admit, Flim Flam arc was probably my highest high overall). I'm glad I was able to realistically reform Chrysalis, probably the longest fucking arc in any fanfiction on this site, and I really fucking hope I nailed it. And then there's our villains, Tirek and Cozy Glow (I'm aware Jimmy exists, he was a blast to write, but he wasn't the endgame bosses). Putting together the entire ending, connecting everything together, was a chore and a half, with tons of notes I had written years before to memorize everything I needed to get there (Even if changes had to be made once the individual adventures got cut), but I think I nailed it. I wanted to write Tirek as I perceived him in season 4 and 8 respectively. As I picked up on Tirek being a little more learned than others in season 8 before his development in 9, though his development in 9 obviously made it into the book as well. Like Chrysalis, he became enamored in human tech. But unlike her, he became obsessed with 'the winning edge' or Deus Ex Machina, and tried to force it (I honestly felt it'd be Silverstream who'd remember the 'legend of Anon' which brought his defeat.). But then there's Cozy Glow...
Honestly? My favorite villain to write for the entire series. I loved setting her up, I liked her reverse baiting anon, I loved writing her as prepared for any situation and yet still childish about it. Deceptively insane, but just very very clever until the end, even coming up with a contingency should her main plan failed. And her playing along with Discord? I'm tooting my own horn here, but it was something I had to add. In the end, there are tons of stuff in Book 2 I like over Book 1, but just the same, I feel like Book 1 has some much better bits over Book 2 (Again, Flim Flam Arc).
In the end, I'm just glad I had an audience, and that you all enjoyed the story. I know the ending wasn't the best, but I really believe it was the journey that mattered.
Thank you all, really, for the years I spent writing the story, and for the years you all commented and read, enjoyed, and even got mad at me. I enjoyed even when people got pissy with me. all of it...
if I ever become a billionaire, maybe I'll write Book 3 with my free time.
