Should I Redo Case Eleven? · 1:53am Oct 13th, 2019

Hey all,

I've finally finished the final chapter of Case Eleven, and am planning on releasing it as soon as it's proofread just so I can get this case over with.

I know I've said this before, but I'm really unhappy with Case Eleven. It was poorly planned and executed and wound up dragging on far longer than it needed to, largely because I tried to cram too much into it and neglected some of the more important parts of the story overall. The whole thing was just a mess from beginning to end. And I'd really love to try again on it: I know I can do better on this. I know I can, and that's the biggest reason why I'm so upset.

Unfortunately, at this point, I don't have much of a plan on fixing it. To be honest, my problems with it are so pervasive that fixing it--simplifying the story, providing more attention to the elements that I actually need, cutting the unnecessary stuff, and rethinking the plot--would require me to actually take the entire case down and start over again from the beginning. And before I undertake something like that, I want to be sure that it'll be worth it.

During the hiatus while I'm planning out Case Twelve, I'll also be thinking about redoing Case Eleven, coming up with a better plotline and outline for it. But I want your takes on it: is this something worth doing? My goal has always been to produce the best stories possible, and I failed in that regard here. Trying again and hopefully doing better on this would make me happy, but after all the work I've already put into it, would it make you happy?

Please leave your thoughts below, I really could use some advice.

Sincerely,

Josiah

Personally, I've enjoyed case eleven just as I've enjoyed all your stories. Is it a masterpiece? That's for everyone to decide on their own, but as far as I'm concerned it's been a good solid romp as a whole and I like it. Would it be better trimmed down? Maybe, maybe not. So my advice is this, if you feel it would be better to redo it, do so, but think of it less as redoing it and more of re-editting it. You already have the premise, the plot and the general execution and from experience that is MUCH easier to work with them starting from scratch.

Either way, looking forward to more of your work as always.

Thank you. Honestly, I think a couple things I'd like to do are focus more on the theft of the Kyaltratek and cut Shining and Cadance out of the story: they wound up stealing too much of the show and resulted in me not using other characters as much.

I liked their inclusion, but yes they did kind of steal the scenes. Perhaps they would work better in a behind the scenes assistant/rear guard capacity instead?

Honestly, this case was kind of refreshing. With the attention being diverted from Phillip and Daring and to Cadence and Shining. It gives us a little bit of perspective of other ponies in the universe.

All in all, I would say it’s a good case.
