Daring Do: Shadows Over Equestria! · 12:21am May 16th, 2023

Hello, readers!

I promised you something soon, and with the publication of the cover art, I can finally deliver!

Daring Do: Shadows Over Equestria, a work that I have spent much of the past few months planning out and writing. It's something I'm very excited about and looking forward to working on. And I hope that you enjoy it!

I'm sure some of you have some questions about it, so let's take the big ones.

Is this a continuation of Ponyville Noire?

Sadly, no. I thought that my anxiety about writing more of Noire would fade over time, but it has not. I simply do not have the willpower to continue it, nor any ideas to satisfactorily conclude it. I'm truly sorry if that's what you were hoping for, but that's the way it is.

However, this is a successor/reboot of sorts for Ponyville Noire! It has many of the same characters, though some of them have been reinterpreted and may seem a bit different. This also is meant to show off a lot of ideas and plans I had for Noire that sadly never came to fruition, as well as make up for any errors I made in Noire. Any fans of the old series are sure to find something to enjoy here!

What's different about this?

Rather than the nenoir aspect from Ponyville Noire that focused on gangsters and organized crime, Shadows Over Equestria leans primarily into the Lovecraftian Horror I introduced in later stories. Taking cues from the Arkham Horror game franchise, Shadows Over Equestria blends horror, mystery, and adventure! But I haven't completely forsaken the lessons I learned writing Ponyville Noire: this story will still feature thrilling action sequences, bewildering mysteries and intrigue, and well-written dialogue and interpersonal relationships as the protagonists grapple with their pasts and the impossible situations they find themselves in.

One thing I want to do differently here is to make the stories in Shadows Over Equestria more self-contained rather than deeply interwoven with one another like in Noire. In retrospect, this is something that I struggled with a lot at times, and may have contributed to everything piling up faster than I could deal with it.

When will you post chapters?

I'm not going to stick to a regular schedule like with Noire: that's something that contributed to my burning out, having to keep up with writing day after day after day. I can't say for certain when chapters will be posted, but I'll try not to space them out too much.

Any other questions or comments, please feel free to post them in the comments. Otherwise, I'll be seeing you when the next chapter is posted!

Love,

Josiah
