You're Never Over · 11:40pm Oct 12th, 2019
The MLP Gen 4 series finale aired today. For so many of us, it feels as though we have encountered a grave loss. For so many years, we have devoted ourselves to writing fanfiction, making art, making music, going to cons, having viewing parties, and loving this incredible show. We have learned so many lessons, not just from the show, but from one another. We have made new friends, and made new worlds in our writing. Our community has bonded to something stronger than just a fandom. We've become a family, all bonded by this show. Though our ships may be different, though our ideas of good stories may seem absurd to others, though our fan favorite characters will always be bickered about for best pony, today we are all one in our feeling of a good thing coming to an end.
But, it's not really an end.
The show may be over, but our writing, our art, our music, our family, keeps it going. To all of us who contribute to this wonderful community, the show has not ended, because we have not stopped creating for it. From this point forward, we make the rules. We make the new characters. We write the stories. We draw the art. We make the songs. It's our time to keep the show going, because the writers have done their part. Let's keep this show going, so that it's legacy can be handed down through generations, and the impact of it never fades.
I believe Eminem expressed this sentiment best in a single lyric:
"You may be gone, but you're never over."- "You're Never Over" from the album Recovery (2010)
This generation of the show may be gone, but it will never be over, as long as we keep it and it's lessons alive. Don't let this end with us. Keep it going for everyone, so we can continue the magic of friendship.
May MLP Gen 4 live forever in our hearts!
Indeed, the fandom will live on
The book has come to a close, but the story lives on to a new book of new adventure, mystery and bond shall be reford. The flame of the past shall shine our path and we shall spread its magic.
Been living in a semi-post-show state since near the end of season five when, for a number of reasons, I stopped watching but continued to collect the dvds and other things (Still haven't watched an episode after the Fluttershy Nightmare Night one). FiMFiction is actually a large part of my continued interest as it explores wider views and alternate paths of the characters and their world.
Trust me on this, love of the show and everything it has stood for can go on even when not watching it, especially if there are those who still enjoy it in some way. I wouldn't have a couple of collectable statues on order right now if I didn't still love what FiM has stood for all these years after first seeing the Sonic Rainboom episode.
