    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Thoughts on "She Talks to Angel" · 6:11am Sep 7th, 2019

Nearly let this one slip by.

Took forever to get a body swap episode (with me having written one of my own a few years ago), but here we are. Odd, really, I usually really like body swap episodes because I have a thing for weird body horror stuff (this trope counts, right?), but this isn't really close to being in my favorites list. I guess it's alright... although there are a couple things that really bother me.

I don't care if it's a reference to some story, I don't get why that stinkin' snake wants to eat the elephant of all things when there are literally better options at the sanctuary that are a lot easier for a python to eat (tried Google, I only got said story, obviously photoshopped images, and stories of snakes eating other animals IRL). Oh, wait, the predators have to control themselves and not eat meat while they stay there, even though carnivores have a hard time digesting plant matter (especially the obligate carnivores, for which meat is an absolute necessity). Insults to biology like that really get on my nerves, and the fact that they're so prominent in the story makes it worse. :facehoof:

And the part where the poor elephant got keys stuck in its nose. That actually hurt to watch.

But uh... character development for Angel Bunny? Well, it at least got that right. And not swapping the voices along with the bodies, but Angel didn't have a voice to begin with, so that's a little minor point. And there's at least an actual reason for the conflict between Fluttershy and Angel.

It's just that those two things that really bother just really drag down the episode for me.

I’m very big on cats, and it bugged me that the solution Fluttershy came up with was “no eating other animals.” Hello, obligate carnivores? I realize that they probably wanted to make it nice for the kiddies, but I don’t think misinformation is the best thing to do. Some people actually believe they should feed their animals vegan diets. They should look at Kitten Lady and Jackson Galaxy, who are committed vegans themselves and who give their cats the best possible kitten formula and meat they can get hold of.

I enjoyed the back and forth between Angel Bunny and Fluttershy, though. I’m surprised that Angel identified Fluttershy as “wanting to marry Discord.” I could see Discord wanting to marry her, I guess, and I can’t see Angel being thrilled with the idea.

Honestly, the episode was ridiculous in a good way for me.

I think most people liked it on just the count of,”I’m Fluttershy. I love animals, I want to marry Discord...” I can’t say I wasn’t included in that group.

I choose to blame Fluttershy's dubious handling of the obligate carnivores as another sign of overwork. She's too exhausted to actually think through what sounds like a good idea on the surface.
