Interview with Little Tigress

by Nailah

“Alright, now tell me my dear friend, what inspired your username?

Response:

My birthday, mostly. In the chinese zodiac I’m from a year of the tiger, my mom is also a tiger, so me being the little one it seemed like a obvious (and cute) name. Plus, tigers are awesome, I guess I also wanted to reflect that kind of confidence in my internet persona.

“What drew you into Mlp?

Response:

It may sound weird but it was because of Equestria Girls. About that time I had been reading a fanfic about Kung fu Panda where all the characters were in high school and I kind of loved the concept so when I saw the EG commercials on the TV it made really curious about the franchise. One night I couldn’t sleep I turned the tv on and started changing channels and in a kid’s network was the first EG movie, it was about half the movie when I started watching it so I got more curious and searched it online, then Rainbow Rocks came out and the rest is history.

“Who is your favorite pony and why?

Response:

Heh, that should be an easy one but for me it’s a tie between Fluttershy and Twilight (the two introverts, go figure). They reflect some aspects, both positive and negative, about my own personality that I love to see change and grow. Also they are really cute, I love their colors and overall design, plus Fluttershy is an otaku and Twilight a total fangirl, what’s not to love about them?

“Favorite episode and why?”

Response:

I want to say “Put your hoof down” because that’s the first episode of MLP I watched but with everything that has happened in the show since then it’s a little difficult to decide.

Return of harmony it’s the first that comes to mind, mostly because of Discord, I just love how fun and devious he was when he was first introduced as a villain, the conflict with all the elements turned opposite and mean was just great both in the sense of story and comedy.

“What inspires you to write?”

Response:

It’s fun! I’ve been doing it for about five years (not on this site of course, my best works aren’t even MLP related), and I love the process, the messiness and chaos of putting the abstract ideas of one’s head into the paper or computer and turn them into words, I love it because once it’s put into words it becomes real, maybe not canon, but it exists and that’s all it takes for a great story to leave an impact, no matter how little or big.

“Tell us about your favorite story, and why it inspires you to write. It doesn't have to be mlp specifically!”

Response:

The story that inspired me to start writing is a KFP fanfic in Spanish I read when I was 13 years old (it still is not finished, go figure). The title is Kung Fu Panda 3: The legend of Tiger and Dragon

When I first discovered that story I had little idea of what fanfiction was, I had read a couple of shipping one shots and a short story at the time but even if they were fun to read I didn’t feel the drive to write one of my own until that story. It’s a fairly long read, but I remember how many nights I stayed up late just to finish one more chapter, I felt it was a fanwork full of passion, it had heart in every word, the characters were perfect and the OC’s compeling, the mysteries didn’t let me sleep and it worked with something I thought was daring at the time: it made Tigress the protagonist. But unlike the movies of Kung fu Panda, the story knew how to balance the main character with the rest of the cast, entire chapters were dedicated to some OC’s backstory but it didn’t felt rushed or out of place, everything seemed to just work, it was perfect in my eyes. I read it without rest for two or three weeks .

Then I realized it wasn’t finished yet and that leaved me with a feeling of emptiness. I wanted to know what was going to happen, I checked the page everyday to see if there was a new chapter or something but, well, it never came. So I read more and more stories in order to fill that hole, to calm that anxiety but I always found myself going back to check if the story had updates.

I couldn’t calm down until I started to write my own clichéd story with a tiger protagonist, lots of OC’s, twists and mysteries. I was so thrilled for my own tale and the way people used to leave comments asking for a new chapter. When I read those comments I said to myself :

“You can’t do that to them! You know how awful it is to invest so much time in a incomplete story!”

To this day I haven’t finished that fic...

“Give us the background of the author! Tell us all about you. Well in a short summary.

Response:

In a short summary… I don’t really know what to say, I’m not that much of a writer anymore, I still love to write in my mother language (English grammar is a real pain for me) but most of my time I spend it drawing fanart or trying to improve my drawings, either ponies or other stuff.

“With Mlp coming to an end, tell us one thing you have learned from your experiences, and how it has helped you to grow?

Response:

First of all, I’ve met a lot of wonderful people on this fandom and that’s what I’m most grateful about, but I also had my first work. Before working on commissions for MLP cover art I was in a tight spot financially and the little works I got thanks to this fandom saved me in multiple occasions, I don’t think I can thank everyone enough for how much they’ve taught me, for the awesome stories I’ve read on this site and the work every brony put into them.

Both the show and the fandom have certainly helped me grow, and words are not enough to express how much I love this fandom and the amazing people who has made it possible.

“Is there anything else you'd like to say?

Response:
Yeah, to whoever is reading this:

Just keep going! Even if you have no idea of what you’re doing! :3

Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of interviewing you, you have truly been a pleasure to talk too. I hope you continue being awesome.

Yeah Discord! :trollestia:

Have to say these interviews are rather neat to read.

Curious how do you choose who gets interviewed?

That's an adorable gif.

Thanks a lot for the interview! It was a really fun experience
