    Across the generations

Something happened earlier this week that got me thinking.

Even though I have all of G4 on my computer and can watch any part of it any time I wish, back on monday on a whim I clicked on the official MLP stream on youtube. I found myself dropped into the middle of Magical Mystery Cure, just before A True True Friend started playing, and I watched through to the end of the episode.

First thing: Today I saw a double rainbow, and probably the strongest single rainbow I've ever seen in my life.

My smartphone camera no doubt impairs it somewhat, but you can see it. It looked like a cartoon rainbow in real life. The colors were so strong I felt like I could see the dividing lines between the colors.

Second thing: The Bronycon bookstore survey ran its course and I got the results. But I gotta confess, the numbers I got tell me very little and I still have no idea how many copies is appropriate to stock. So if anyone feels like they can dispense sage advice to me on that front, please do. I have to send my final notification to Aquaman on the 7th, which is getting a tad close for comfort.

Third thing: I mentioned in early June that I was working on the long-unfinished next chapter of The Crown of Night. The one that's been lying around in some form or other since 2015, vexing me with its uncertain existence. I actually continued making progress on it, sort of. It moved slowly, but it moved. I have come around to laying down a few specific criteria for exactly what constitutes a "first draft", something not exceptional but concrete and achievable, and I worked on getting each scene in the chapter to that. And one by one, the scenes fell in line. Until there was just one left I hadn't written at all. And having no better ideas I just sort of glared at that blank page for a few days, from across a moat.

The other night I was afflicted with insomnia, and having no better ideas I sat down and plowed through the last scene, because I was too tired to care that it wasn't good. That can be useful sometimes. And... I got through the scene. It's a first draft. And it was the last scene, and now the whole chapter is a first draft.

The four year chapter is now a first draft. I really don't know how to feel about that.

So that's me. I hope you are well.

To the best of my knowledge that guy was never put in MLP, which is a bit odd when you get right down to it.

Thanks! Mind you I still have no idea when it'll actually be published. First draft is still first draft. But if you're interested in an early look I'm interested in getting feedback :derpytongue2:

I sent half the number of books that the survey indicated people were interested in. Mostly because that falls in line with what I know of people and the vicissitudes of con attendance. (And I didn't want to burden Aquaman with leftovers.)
