RIP Akira Toriyama · 9:23am March 8th
It is reported that legendary mangaka and video game artist Akira Toriyama died on march 1st, aged 68.
That one stings. The creator of Goku, a character I honestly think stands next to Superman in the pantheon of pop culture icons, one of the most recognizable characters in the world, has passed on. I'm not sure anyone can make characters like that anymore. And it stings for me personally because Chrono Trigger was one of my first hyperfixations, a game I would play over and over again back in the 90s. Akira Toriyama created that game's whole visual identity.
RIP to a legend. Thank you for all your work, Toriyama-san.
This comes as a sincere shock. Sadly, no amount of wishes will bring him back. May he rest in peace,
Rest in peace, Toriyama-sensei. You've brought the world much joy with your work, and that work will live on for a long time. Any of us who create art and stories for others to enjoy should hope to leave a legacy such as yours.
I have never read Toriyama's works, but it is clear that this artist has created very beloved works that have deeply marked the lives of many people for the better, and for that I pay my respects to him. Rest in peace, Akira. You'll be remembered.
o7 to the legend. Gone but never forgotten.
