We're back... but it's likely slow going.

So, in answer to the MANY people who keep asking when i'm going to update any of my fics despite my having a blog that explains WHY they've ALL been left unupdated over the last 3-4 months, my library is open again, so i should be able to finally get back to writing.

This... could be a problem · 2:11am May 17th, 2019

So, in my last two blogs I talked about how the main website I use to download my videos, https://www.clipconverter.cc/ has given me a few annoyances over the last couple months, but that tended to resolve themselves after a while.

well, today a new problem seems to have arisen... that could be more problematic and permanent an issue.

Normally, if you want to convert a video for download on their site, you enter the video URL into the bar on screen, select what format you want it to download as (MP4, 3PG, AVI, MOV or MKV), it then lets you chose a few extra functions, like when you want the video to start from or end at, should you want to alter that. you then click continue and the page moves to a search for possible options of quality (halting if the video has protection, like if it's music is too copyrighted), while another tab opens up (quickly close that, you don't need it and it randomly sends you anywhere on the net, so could send you somewhere bad if you're not careful).

however, today... that didn't happen as smoothly as it should have. it took multiple times clicking continue and quickly closing the extra tab that opens, for the mere 2, yes, just 2 videos I wanted to convert to download, before it actually gave me the options for what quality to download the videos in.

this has NEVER happened before with the website, and concerns me greatly, because, as I've mentioned before, the only other download sites I can use and rely on are https://keepvid.site/ and https://ytmp3.cc/ and those aren't exactly perfect either. Keepvid takes ages to download even the smallest video and sometimes will just stop the download partway through without warning. as for ytmp3, it only allows you to download either a single quality of MP4 or MP3 and also has limits on that, like if it considers something to be adults only, so only those over 18 should be able to view or what you want is over 2 hours long, even by a millisecond, it won't let you get them at all.

I just really, REALLY hope this is just a technical issue that will be fixed before I actually NEED the site again, because, ignoring the multitude of other videos from youtubers I will want to get, be they audio readings, radio plays, countdowns or episodes of other shows altogether, MLP has only gotten up to episode SEVEN of this season. we've still 19 more to go and the last time I downloaded an MLP episode from ytmp3, the audio was not only not synced with the visuals, but the footage was constantly jumping, as if glitching. Now, it doesn't do that to all videos all the time, but those it does are at total random, so there's no way of knowing.

I am grateful to the many people have seen and answered on my blogs about my concerns whenever one of my downloading website stops helping me and have themselves offered other options in download websites for me to use, I wouldn't have nearly half the videos I do nowadays without their help, but not all suggestions have been fruitful, and that's what worries me.

as time moves on, it's like, more and more, despite us moving further into the digital age, we are being restricted on how we can get our entertainment digitally. more and more websites that let you download videos are becoming unusable one way or another.

I have long been worried that my time being able to rely on Clipconverter was coming to an end, but it still concerns me greatly. it has been the best website ever for downloading videos. it had allowed me to get videos my first ever download websites refused to let me get without explanations and has allowed to to lessen the storage space taken up by my downloads by offer smaller sized videos with good quality, as well as let me shorten videos I didn't want all the footage of.

Yes, I've been annoyed when it wouldn't let me continue multiple downloads without checking if i'm a robot (which it did today with the number of times I had to keep clicking continue because it Simpy wasn't letting me move forward, for whatever reason), and on the worse occasions asking me to confirm, but refusing to let me at times, but it has been a lifesaver for downloading. If it goes, or I simply find it not worth the troubles of it keeping me from downloading anymore... I will be seriously lost on what to do going forward.

what few other options that have been presented to me that DO work have their own issues that, in the grand scheme of things, might just make me too sad to want to move forward like that, which would result in so much stuff from the internet no longer being desirable to me.

When it comes to fic readings and radio plays in this fandom, for example, I COULD go back to how I did things before I was actually able to download videos at all, simple get the audio files of the video and then spend AGES looking through Google Images or Deviantart for images that match what was happen and just cycle through the images as each thing happens... but that is honestly a last resort kind of thing and does kill the enjoyment somewhat, because it prevents you from fully immersing yourself in what you're listening to.

as for other videos... i honestly don't know.

If you know of websites that are truly, 100% trustworthy for downloading videos from, I would be more than happy for the options given. Of course, your idea of trustworthy can be different for many others, as I sadly have indeed learned from some of the options others have given me. they may have had good experiences with those websites, but after being directed to them, most of my own experiences were not all positive.

Either way, my days of downloading videos are now in the mists of uncertainty for the foreseeable future. it is not an outcome I agree with, but there is nothing i can actually do to change this path i am forced to go down.

whatever happens now, i will not have any way of being able to determine my downloading future. I can only hope that things will work out for the best... no matter how useless that hope may be.

I'd recommend this site if you're having issues. What I use anyways.

https://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/youtube-converter

I use GenYouTube for YT videos.

Google 4k video downloader. It's a program and it works really well. Aside from that pwnyoutube.com has the best options.

I use RealPlayer (an app) to download my videos. A lot safer and faster, really gets the job done.

y2mate.com is something my friend uses

I know the fear, that downloading pony videos could eventually not work anymore because YouTube is implementing more and more protection, well. But it's also an unfounded fear, as I had to force myself to learn to not freak out and panic all the time. In the Internet, everything can be worked around. If YouTube implements protection against external downloaders, the people offering such services just need to analyze what's different and then code a solution to circumvent it. A good programmer will always be able to do that.
There is no reliable, long-term way for YouTube to make downloading impossible.

If you know of websites that are truly, 100% trustworthy for downloading videos from, I would be more than happy for the options given.

All websites are, actually. I have tried numerous and I never had any problems with viruses. The most that could happen are annoying advertisement pop-ups, but even those are still safe. If you want to play it careful, install a good virus protection on your computer (something you should have anyway), but nothing should happen either way.
What I am mostly using is the VideoDownloadHelper add-on for Firefox. It has a very dedicated programmer who always updates the program to adjust to any changes YouTube makes. I use it for 720p HD downloads, but 1080p HD downloads require an addition to the program that costs money for quite some time now, so I switched to download sites for that. It sometimes has issues with downloading videos lately and I don't know when its creator will fix those, but it still works for many videos.
If you need 1080p HD videos, you can use these sites:

https://y2mate.com (The best site. Even when copyright holders have decided to not allow external downloads, it still manages to work around even the strictest protections. It never fails with a download.)

http://convert2mp3.net/en/index.php (Now offline because the owner of it gave up after being threatened with a fight in front of court. The second-best option. 720p HD downloads don't work anymore due to a site bug that no one seems to bother fixing, but 1080p HD downloads work without a hitch. It doesn't bypass all download protection, but sometimes it's still possible to download a heavy-copyrighted video).

https://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/de/youtube-converter (The third-best option right now. It can't download videos with heavy copyright protection, but all other videos work just fine. You will still be able to download most pony videos, such as fanfic readings, ect. with that.)

sorry I'm a month late to the party but this is my area I'm an archivist as a side hobby so I need good software for that. I normaly use 4k video downloader for all my downloading work you don't need the paied version the you get little from that. before I switched to 4k I used convertinmp4.com

5067353
I can vouch for https://y2mate.com ; It's never let me down...

That's what I said. converttomp3 went offline, though, because IFPI and several music labels threatened the owner to drag him in front of court because they were peeved over it that dozens of copyrighted songs were downloaded with it. Unfortunately a victory for the ridiculously greedy music industry here, but replacements are plenty and new ones get established all the time.
