Unsure What to Do · 1:53am Jul 28th, 2018
Well, I've got 38,000 words written so far for the sequel to Pandemic: What you are Meant to Be. I've got mixed reactions from pre-readers so far. One seems legitimately interested and offers up legitimate help. Two just didn't follow through with pre-reading, another is critical to the point of saying they expect each chapter to be horrible, and another I think feigned interest and just gives a passing editing glance. So not exactly thrilled overall with the pre reader reception overall.
I'm spending a good deal of time going through edits with some chapters going through as many as eight drafts. The more I edit the less momentum I have for writing it though and the majority lack of enthusiasm from pre readers just further discourages me. I felt as if I had a superior product to the original story in the works but I'm questioning that now.
Not sure if it will be coming or not. At 38,000 words I barely have actually begun as I planed a much longer sequel without any abrupt and disappointing ending. I have literally just passed 24 hours of time in the story at the 38,000 word mark, so was going to be a big one. However, feeling discouraged about it before the first chapter is published doesn't bode well.
Hope I'm the one that has been helpful.
its a daunting task to build a world but please keep it up your a good writer and the story has been great .
writing "copy" of policy and such can be tough but this is a good story.
Ultimately it's up to you what you want to do with the story, but from what you posted on the forum, it looks pretty solid to me. You definitely have improved from the first story you posted. I am no stranger myself to going through successive drafts before being satisfied with the end product. The original Pandemic story went through about four attempts before I finally struck on a structure that I liked.
In my opinion, writing is not about the actual writing, but editing. Personally, I spend less than 10% writing and more than 90% editing.
You may have thought of the greatest story in the world, but if it's unreadable, nopony will finish reading it. The time you spend editing is not a waste. Every mistake you fix represents saving the 1000 future readers from suffering.
