In my fanfic, they are about the same age, Starlight might be a couple of months older at most.

I call Starlight. And not just by a small margin, either. I think she's older by several years.

Logically, she must have spent years building her little town, and she probably couldn't have convinced the first settlers to join if she was a little filly, so I figure she musta been an adult even when she started. That means Starlight is probably the pony equivalent of late 20s.

Twilight on the other hand, is canonically only a couple years out of Celestia’s apprenticeship.

Given the years of self-study and establishing Our Town, I'm going to say Starlight's older. Less emotionally mature, but an even longer period of isolation and obsession will do that to a person.

This is actually an interesting discussion.

I always thought that Twilight was either the oldest of the group or the youngest. Oldest because she's the most capable and wise other than AJ....youngest because she's so gifted. If I was actually asked to write this though....I'd say Twilight went to Ponyville before hitting her twenties....which would have made her 19 when she became a princess. 20/21 when Flurry Heart was born....emotionally/mentally Starlight is younger, but I wanna say she's older....? I'm thinking she's a year older than Twilight. So I think at this point in the story, Twilight is 21 while Starlight is 22. Urgh, freaking Pony discussions at 11pm...I'm too sleepy for this lol

You don't even need to reach for that stick. Compare Twilight's actions in Friendship is Magic to Starlight's in Celestial Advice. Upon being pushed out of the nest and then being given the opportunity to climb back in, Twilight opted to begin a new stage in her life. Presented with the same opportunity, Starlight opted to continue living in Twilight's house rent-free, flying kites and generally futzing around.

I think twilight's older. Otherwise wouldn't twilight recognise sunburst as a senior as they were both in the school for gifted unicorns. Either starlight and sunburst would have to be significantly older (which based off their interactions seems unlikely) or slightly younger, since it would make sense for sunburst not to bring up recognising twilight from the school of gifted unicorns since everyone knows she attended. My opinion at least, you could argue twilight was so self absorbed in her studies she wouldn't remember him, so by that account they could even be the same age.

Eight years have passed in canon, at least. If I'm parsing S8 correctly, that alone has encompassed a little over a year, as there's been 9 Teacher Of The Month awards and the school took several months to build.
