In Which I Beg for Sweet Release From Breaking Dawn: Chapter 3 -- Big Day · 12:48pm Jun 24th, 2018
Bella wakes up and is, for some reason, annoyed with herself for having that dream about the immortal child, as if she could control what she dreams. After breakfast, she and Charlie get ready, and Alice arrives to help them put the finishing touches on their clothes and make them look presentable. There’s an interesting bit where Alice mentions that, to keep the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride’s dress before the wedding, she’s been very careful to not think about the dress when Edward’s around. It’s like Alice pops up and the book gets an instant, if temporary, personality injection. After fixing up Charlie, Alice takes Bella to the Cullens’ to put on her makeup.
Eventually, the rest of both Bella’s and Edward’s families arrive, and they faff about a lot. Finally, it’s time for the actual ceremony, Bella walks down the aisle, and sees Edward.
All I really saw was Edward’s face; it filled my vision and overwhelmed my mind.
Suddenly, it was only the pressure of Charlie’s hand on mine that kept me from sprinting headlong down the aisle.
I touched the cool miracle of his skin, and I was home.
In that moment, as the minister said his part, my world, which had been upside down for so long now, seemed to settled into its proper position. I saw just how silly I’d been for fearing this — as if it were an unwanted birthday gift or an embarrassing exhibition, like the prom. I looked into Edward’s shining, triumphant eyes knew that I was winning, too. Because nothing else mattered but that I could stay with him.
I tried to comprehend, through the film of tears blinding me, the surreal fact that this amazing person was mine.
Wow. Trying to make up for lost time, are we? All of these statements happen in two pages as Bella and Edward are saying their vows. CM + 5
They turn back to the audience, and there’s applause. Bella goes through the hugs of her friends and family, but can’t help noticing Jacob’s absence; Seth is standing in for him.

This chapter was shorter than the others, which is strange, considering it covers what should be a big event. Bella’s emotions aren’t delved into all that much except about Edward, so everything feels a little flatter than usual (or maybe that’s just because I don’t care about the characters). And so far in the book, nothing has really happened. There hasn’t been any inciting incident. Heck, by this point, all the other books had one: Twilight had Bella get mysteriously attracted to Edward, New Moon had Bella’s accident at her party and Edward’s departure, Eclipse had the Seattle murders and the reminder that Victoria is still out there. This book has… a wedding. And technically, we’re not even completely done with the wedding yet; the next chapter covers the reception.
I really hope the whole book isn’t like this. It’s already the slowest in a slow series. But I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
Oh boy, faffing and slice of life fluff. :B
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this poor abused sentence was Meyer’s error and not one made when transcribing it.
