Moth Plays Dragonball Xenoverse 2, Episode 4: Familiar Battles Fought With New Faces! · 11:46pm Feb 26th, 2018

Welcome back!

Previously: Majin Sparkle's first Time Patrol got way out of hand as she was forced to deal with two Oozaru.

Episode 4: Familiar Battles Fought With New Faces!

This time around, we're starting off with Coccinelle taking on some Parallel Quests. Watch in amusement as a tiny little human girl takes part in events from early in Dragonball Z teaming up with characters from Dragonball Super! Thrill at Piccolo, Kuririn, Yamcha, and Tenshinhan getting kicked around by Super Saiyajin Rosé Goku Black and Super Saiyajin Blue Vegito! Marvel at the defenders of Earth getting smacked around by Zamasu and Fused Zamasu or Champa and Vados! Watch in amazement as Cabba helps hunt down Saibamen!

After that, it's time for Bass to make his debut! The Time Patrol has sent him to Planet Namek. There, he fights Zarbon, Dodoria, and Lord Slug.

I forgot to mention this last time, but in a blocked scene, Towa gives Taresu and Slug the fruit of the Tree of Might, which has been enhanced by the Demon Realm to give whoever eats it immeasurable power. Also, the "Masked Saiyajin" appears for the first time in this cutscene. It's...painfully obvious who he is.

To close out today's episode, I make my first visit to one of the Time Rifts (the race-specific mission locations), this time to Namek, and...run right into the same thing that was the bane of me in Xenoverse 1: a Dragonball hunt.

I still have no freaking clue how to Dragon Radar. I failed the mission spectacularly and probably nuked any chance I had at getting Bass' Awakened form. Ah well.

What's going to happen next?

Find out next time, on Moth Plays Dragonball Xenoverse 2!

See ya next fight!

I think, after having used Bass for a little while and seen how awesome he actually looks in action, I've decided on a headcanon backstory for him: his true identity is Piccolo the Third. He uses the name 'Bass' to carry out his Time Patrol work without anyone suspecting the truth. The 4-Star Dragonball hat he wears is a memento passed to him from his father's favored pupil and godson.

Who the heck is Bass?

What about the dragon radar don't you understand?

The game doesn't really bother to explain how it works or how to use it AT ALL and figuring out by trial and error is frustrating.

...the Namek I made, who I introduced two blog posts ago? You know, one of my five characters I'm alternating between here?

Oh, must not have seen their name pop up, glad to see you enjoying yourself Moth

For future reference, here's how the Dragon Radar works.
You can change the range by pressing the R3 button (I don't know what that is).
On the Radar, there's an arrow pointing to the Ball...until it's within range, at which point it will be a dot of light that beeps.
The center of the Radar is you. Turn your character until the dot is directly forward. Move forward until the dot is centered. Descend until you hit solid ground. Point the camera down and rotate slowly until you see an orange ball on the ground. That is the Dragon Ball. Unlike other items you can pick up, they do not have exclamation point markers as a pick-up, and you have to spot them as part of the terrain.
(On the last clip of the 'mission', a Dragon Ball was directly behind your character.)
Once you're standing next to a Dragon Ball, use O to pick it up. Then fly to the big capsule and use O to put it in. Repeat with all Dragon Balls for the mission.

And that's how you do it.

And don't worry about failing this time as far as completing the Guru's quest. The 'protect Namek' quest endlessly respawns, letting you build up the gauge of 'Namek's safety', and completing a certain number successfully is what lets you get the quest rewards.

Like Tatsurou said, but R3 is clicking the right stick.

Thanks. Yeah, I got that the right analog stick was how you changed the range of it, but for me the Radar never seems to really DO anything except point out where the time capsule is. I mean, it was the same in the first game--I found Dragonballs (I do know what they look like and how to pick them up, I actually cleared that one PQ in XV1) by accident. And I do sometimes miss the bleeding obvious, but the Dragon Radar has never made sense to me in XV and judging by forums I've browsed I'm not the only one.

Your explanation IS the most clear and concise one I've ever seen, so I'll give it a try next time and see if I can get a better handle on it. Thanks. :)

Welcome.
And if you keep clicking 'R3', it'll switch between "Close up look for Dragonballs", "Distant look for Dragonballs" and "this way to the capsule". I...don't know how to tell them apart.

Also, the "Masked Saiyajin" appears for the first time in this cutscene. It's...painfully obvious who he is.

Yeah, the game TRIES to hype him up, but there's only like what, 4 Saiyans total with that hairstyle? 5 if you count Black? Between that and the armor, it's not hard to guess. If they'd given him a fully concealing helmet, that might have worked.

Not really, you can try again at any time you want. Also, those missions let you go from being able to put 100 points in any stat to 125. That said, those missions are still a pain.

And raise the level cap from 85 to 99.

That said, the Namekian transformation, has been nerfed into the ground. It LOOKS cool and it can be good in small maps like The World Tournament, but, it's generally not that good anymore, sadly. And it doesn't last very long.

Eh, I honestly don't care for the whole "turn big lel" power. It just makes you a bigger target. In any case, Bass, despite being a ki build, is shaping up to be one of my better bruisers. He basically IS Piccolo in every way that matters. Bana is my super bruiser. Fittingly, everything he does is fast, violent, and damaging. Orion, OTOH....

Orion is the weak link in my team. His combos are shit, they break too easily, and I have a bitch of a time getting him out of a clutch.

Coccinelle, though? She's my cheese monkey. Her natural juggle combo chained into Deadly Dance means her assault is relentless and virtually inescapable. I went through the Advancement Test without taking a single hit until Piccolo showed up. He was the only one who could break her combo.

There's a real good Frieza race combo. 5 light attacks until you get the mini cutscene of him rushing forward with his fist in whoever's gut, and then heavy attacks, he'll spin around and knock down your target. Solid combo for solid damage. And Frieza race is one you want to put points in basic attack for. Because that's part of the gimmick of their Transformation.

Noted. Also, I've now officially cleared the first round of the story with each character. The girls both got the hard fight. The guys (well, guy and aliens) took the Namek route. So now all five characters are past the first cutscene with the villains. I think I'll split the next video between Bana and Orion since I haven't properly introduced them yet. Hands down, though? Coccinelle and Bass are my favorite two to play.

Yeah, Female earthlings and Male Saiyans are fun to play and can be REAL good.
