Episode 3: Saiyajin Panic! Two Oozaru?!
Picking up where we left off last time, Majin Sparkle continues the Time Patrol on Earth. During the battle with Nappa and Vegeta, Taresu shows up unexpectedly, delaying Goku's arrival for the big fight! With Majin Sparkle's help, Taresu is driven back long enough for Kinoa to show up and continue her pursuit of him. With Taresu gone, Goku and Majin Sparkle return to the battle with the Saiyajin...but things take another unexpected turn when Vegeta AND Nappa become Oozaru!

Yeah. Because it's his name. His name is Taresu. It's not Tales. It's not Turles. It's Taresu.
Just like Jiisu's name isn't Jeice, just like Kuririn's name isn't Krillin, just like Bura's name isn't Bulla. Just like the Tsufurujin aren't "Tuffles".
If a dub name wrecks the intended naming pun, I reject it.

Hey, I don't have a problem with it or anything, I was just wondering. It does suck that the dub removes those sweet puns everyone's name has. (Although, personally, I do prefer Krillin to Kuririn, but that's probably because I heard Krillin first, and I get that name mixed up with Korin for some reason.)
... So what is Taresu's name a pun of?

It's a Japanese anagram. Ta re su --> re ta su --> retasu --> lettuce.
Tsufurujin is similarly an anagram, as is Saiyajin. Take off the "jin" part which just means 'being' or 'person', and this is what you get:
Tsufuru --> tsu fu ru --> fu ru tsu --> furutsu --> fruits
Saiya --> sa i ya --> ya sa i --> yasai --> Japanese for "vegetables"
Huh. Now the Saiyajin one I did know, and if I ever get around to watching GT I'd have probably gotten Tsufurujin eventually, (fruits and vegetables, doi) but I'd never have gotten Taresu.
