    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Happy Valentine's Day · 6:07pm Feb 14th, 2018

Since I'm still single, I just typically celebrate this by eating candy and drawing lovey-dovey stuff between characters. Since my blog last week, I managed to get some pictures drawn for the occasion, even if I didn't have time to color them and their quality is compromised by my camera being kind of stupid.

Between some ideas that you guys (or at least two of you) brought up and a couple picks of my own, drawing these was kind of fun.

1. Wayer and Jamberry Rune

And we kick things off with a couple from more than a millennium ago, comprised of a young, curious mage who'd go on to make new magical discoveries for better and worse, and a goofy peasant that was destined to become one of Equestria's greatest jesters and earliest party ponies. Back in the day, they did have a very healthy relationship (they did technically have ten foals--it's just that only half reached adulthood), even if inter-tribe marriages weren't exactly all that common then and they faced a bit of scrutiny at first.

But then a war happened, and well... does the whole story on the wolf plague thing need to be repeated?

2. Ponyacci and Juneflower

Kind of a funny thing, really. I first learned about Ponyacci through scoots2 and her stories (mainly Swear on Camembert), and thus that led to my checking out the comic and enjoying it. There's not much info of him to be found, so I essentially adopted the idea of him having a wife from Scoots, and I gave her a name, and then wrote about their 50th anniversary in Brotherly Bonding Time.

I do have a bit of backstory for them. The ringmaster's daughter, a serious, aspiring artist, tried to make Equestria's greatest clown romance her like a normal stallion should. Turns out, trying to repress a party pony is not a good idea, and shenanigans happened anyway. Regardless, June did learn to lighten up, and Ponyacci did manage to tone himself down when clowning around was not appropriate.

3. Coco Pommel and Silver Shill

Ah, yes, CocoShill, the one ship I like that while it's cute, the major road block is that Coco Pommel is such a boring character that it's hard to write her. Silver Shill is actually pretty easy once you come up with a story for how he got tangled with the Flim Flam bros.

Anyway, this thing is based on a story idea in my head where Silver's sisters (and honorary sister Silk Shimmer) set him up on a date with Coco, and while that's nice, poor Silver gets really self-conscious about his underbite, especially when he sees her and realizes, "Oh, yikes, she's gorgeous, I can't compare to that!" He tries to play off his scarf covering his mouth as "It's pretty cold tonight, yanno?"

4. Mozzarella and Hay Burger

One of the most surprising things about my time in ponydom is how there are people who actually want to know more about the Sandwich parents as characters, instead of just plot points for their sons' story. Well, here's what this couple initially bonded over--I think their special talents (discipline and organization) work pretty well together... it's just their respective personalities that are the problem.

Also, it's a rare scene of them actually being kind of cute. Won't got much affection between them these days.

5. Pizza Pockets (I) and Cucumber Melon (I)

So, naturally we jump from Sandwich parents to Sandwich grandparents--or technically, these are the Pockets grandparents (or Cheese grandparents? I dunno). I'm still wondering why anybody hasn't called me crazy for my story of how an elegant Canterlot noblemare eloped with a goofy Manehattan pizzeria owner and those were Cheese Sandwich's grandparents. There's bound to be somebody out there thinking it...

While they may have been too nice of parents to their daughters, they were pretty good grandparents to Cheese and Tomato Sandwich, and let them have good childhood fun before they passed. Hence why Cheese names his firstborn son after grandpa, and Tomato names his second daughter after grandma.

6. Beans and Panini

And we jump from one set of grandparents to the next, with Hay Burger's parents this time. Instead of a rich and poor dynamic, this is more of a city boy and country girl dynamic... and also kind of a street-smart and book-smart kind of dynamic, too. Anyway, with much of Beans' character revolving around the piano, it's really no surprise that he liked to serenade her.

Also, I do believe Panini, a teacher, would have tutored Beans on things that he missed out on due to being a school dropout. Heck, she would have been a huge help for a struggling Cheese had she not died when the kid was three. Sad, really, most of their grandfoals don't have clear memories of Grampa Beans and Nana Nini before they passed on--the only one who does is the oldest, Peanut Butter.

7. Quibble Pants and Rainbow Dash

So... I headcanon that Quibble is a great cook and Rainbow can't get enough of his cooking.

My initial idea for a QuibbleDash piece was Dashie meeting Quibble's family and vice versa, but it'd take too long to draw all nine of Quibble's siblings, so I'll have to save that for later. Still, thinking about the scenario of the army of siblings swarming Dash is hilarious, even with Quibble trying to warn her about each of the annoying quirks that they still retain as adults. And then there's when Quibble meets Rainbow's parents...

8. Roanie and Peppermint Stride

It's cute when a couple laughs and jokes together... but then you realize that they're doing so after a recent heist that probably left ponies dead, and thus you just want to get out of there before you're next. But, hey, even some bad ponies have romance, even nasty outlaws like these two.

And that's what I've got for today. I should draw other romantic thingamabubbies for the other couples sometime. Shame that there's a lack of CheesePie or Flormato this time around, but, hey, gotta give the spotlight to other ponies sometimes, you know?

M'kay, see you later.

Sorry I didn't offer any suggestions. You populate Equestria with so many interesting characters, it's hard to keep track of them all! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :derpytongue2:) Thanks for the sketches.

These are all so cute...I can't pick which one's the cutest! Oh noes...

Aww I love all of these! They're adorable!

Did you get your Quibble headcanon from the fact that Patton Oswalt voices Remy from Ratatouille?

These are really cute, btw!
