All Art Is Quite Useless

When I'm not writing stories, I'm writing essays. My keyboard sees fairly frequent use. University student, high functioning Rainbow Dash enthusiast, and satirical activist.

Necessary Adjustments · 8:06pm Sep 13th, 2017

An ironic title, considering what I've just done. Namely, as per my commissioner's request, I've made a few edits on the first two chapters of A Royal Mistake. Nothing too jarring, mind you, just little things in the dialogue, small edits in the prose to reflect tone, and a couple of other things that I felt needed ironing out.

Not too much has changed, so a reread isn't necessary by any means. This is still the same story, the same events, and the same scenes, with a few very subtle differences.

With that out of the way, I'm free to work on chapter three!

In other news, this was a success:

EThe Confuzzling Commendation of Sir Rainbow Dash
After being a hero once more and saving hundreds of lives, Rainbow Dash battles with an unexpected foe: Fame and appreciation.

I'm glad people enjoyed this story. I know a few people would have preferred that I use the word 'dame' instead of 'sir', but hey, artistic license, and it really is aesthetics rather than gender that influenced my choice. In my opinion, 'Sir Rainbow Dash' just sounds cooler. But, of course, this wasn't the point of the story. TCCoSRD (long name, huh?) was all about how our more mature and developed Wonderbolt flier deals with severely increased fame, and explores various facets of Rainbow's personality, as well as some of Celestia's.

Anyways, it was a lot of fun to write. Go check it out if you haven't already!

What else have I been up to?

Working on a novel sized fic: I've had this in the pipeline for a little while now, and while I really am looking forward to sharing it, I want to get some more of it written and revised before I release any! Needless to say, plenty of time has gone into this, so hopefully it'll be enjoyed when it's out! I won't give any details now, but I think it's safe to say that it'll be one of my better stories, if only for the effort I'm putting into it.

Working on two collabs: Both exciting projects! I can't put a timestamp on either, but I'm very much looking forward to them being out. It's all pretty hush-hush at the minute, but I'll share some information when I'm able to!

Preparing to release a writing guide: If you're a new or prospective writer, and you want some carefully put together advice on how to make your stories the best you can, as well as how to get others to notice your stories, you'll wanna be around for this! Luckily, you followers will get a notification as soon as I release it, as I'll be doing it in the form of a blog post, so watch this space!

Also, I'm considering resuming updates for this soon, alongside A Royal Mistake:

TOrder by Destruction
Discord is roused from his age old sleep, Rainbow is visited in her own. The Princess of the Night has call for both of their services in a covert quest that will rock Equestria to its core.

Of course, I'd love to update all of my longfics simultaneously, but unfortunately, I don't shit free time. Still, I wanna get on top of things, and I figure I might as well start off with a project I enjoy, as soon as I get the chance to.

I'm not gonna make any promises as to when or how often this story will be updated, but I'd like to make it fairly frequent, it's a lot of fun to write, even if it needs a tiny bit of editing.

There are, of course, other little bits I'm working on, but nothing worth mentioning in this blog post right now.

One thing I'm eagerly waiting for is a result on this:

EDon't Ever Let Me Go
For years, Sunset Shimmer has held her place at Celestia's side. She was her prized student, her number one prodigy. In return, Celestia was Sunset's world, her passion. However, with time and age come change, and Sunset cannot take it any more.

For those not in the know, I wrote and entered this story into Oroboro's Sunset Shipping Contest after finding out that such a thing existed. (Thanks, Jack.)

I've got some pretty stiff competition, and with 55 entries there's a slim chance I've won, but I had a lot of fun writing it regardless! Knowing that I wrote one of the only SunLestia ships on this entire site is pretty awesome. (Like, seriously, I think it's one of two?)

Again, I encourage you to check it out, especially if you like a little emotion in your stories.

If you're still here reading, perhaps you're interested in my personal life?

I'm living in a new house now. Still adjusting to that, but it's a nice place. I like where I'm living, got no real complaints on that front, and I've been seeing plenty of my girlfriend lately, which is always lovely. I start university again next week, so that should be fun. Weird having been gone for so long, but at least I'm not out of practice with writing this time, considering the amount I do for ponyfics now!

Anyways, keep your eyes peeled for new chapters of A Royal Mistake and Order by Destruction, as well as those other things I mentioned, including my handy writing guide, which will be out soon!
