    A personal social museum

Hey, everyone. Sorry for being so quiet lately. I've been a little tired in general, and I've wanted to take a break from fanfiction for a while, not a big break, mind you, just for a few weeks, and I've sort of been doing that, but I've also checked in most days to check comments, and nagging myself that I should write, so... it's like the worst of both worlds, not doing anything, but also not

    So very tired

One of the reasons I don't write more news like this than I do is that the latest blog post is going to be on my profile's front page and the latest news about my writing for quite a while, but I still felt like I should write something. Because... well, there seems to be some people who genuinely want to read what I write, weird as that feels to say out loud. I mean, there are a few

Sunset Shimmer at Hogwarts story mission statement

I am not feeling very eloquent today, or least not this moment, but I've decided to nonetheless try and give an update on what's going on, and why I'm writing an crossover where Sunset Shimmer ends up at Hogwarts and not something else.

So why this story and not other stuff? What gives?

    physical recovery period

okay, so, i have not been in an accident or something like, it was relatively minor operation, and it has been in the works for a while, but i got a summons on a very short notice.

so right now i am typing and using the mouse with my left hand, and i am not super enthusiastic about stuff since my right wrist hurts quite a bit, so i will be brief.

    Just a general update

You know how there's this sentiment that a lot of people don't go to the hospital even when they should?

I'm not entirely convinced about that's a valid feedback to give in general. I mean, the medical community have enough on their plate, even without pandemics, without everyone going to see a medical professional every time they have the flu, or a stomach bug, or something.

Thank you for your patience · 6:40am Aug 16th, 2017

My internet is down, and has been since last week. My isp is sending someone over to take a look next week, but theres no guarantee they can fix it at that time.

Im writing this on my antique phone outdoors, since it cant receive signals through my walls.

I was going to write news about mlaabq and things in general, but i really dont want to write all that on a phone, outdoors.

Im not going anywhere, and If i seem unresponsive, this is why.

More mlaabq-news will follow, and i will respond to you all when i can. Thank you for your patience, i love you guys, and please imagine the appropriate emoticons inserted at fitting locations.

See you, hopefully soon.

I know the feeling of no internet.

I really hope internet becomes a universal right in the future. The ability to communicate and obtain knowledge shouldn't be regulated by companies who view themselves foremost as a businesses that prioritize profits above all else. All in good faith though. No internet for terrorists and similar organizations. Twitter is stupid for letting ISIS have an account.

A backup Internet service is a necessity...
My (1 Mb/s) primary service costs $30 per month.
My (extremely limited, and a bit flaky) FreedomPOP 4G backup costs a tenth that price.
I haven't yet dropped my third, 56k dial-up backup, though it will likely never serve me again.
The Internet is Life, release it not! :twilightangry2:

I could sneak on down to the local fastfood place and leech their free wifi. A VPN would be recommended however (scored a cheap lifetime subscription from one of those slashdot deals a while back).

I'd put money down on some knucklehead digging where they're not supposed to.

No internet for two weeks is god's way of punishing you for killing a deer.

I suggest you head out and have some fika at the local cafe and hook up to their wi-fi.

And it's awful... ly boring.

4636600
Yeah. I'm not sure I mind that ISIS isn't banned from Twitter, though. I kinda like knowing where the crazies are.

4636612
Well I didn't release it on purpose you know. I'm also a thrifty kind of person.

My (1 Mb/s) primary service costs $30 per month.

Whoa. That's a lot of money for 1 Mb/s.

I hate using my computer in public though :/

I would've assumed that as well before I moved here. I called up my isp, and they said that they're getting signals from every flat in the house, except ours.

Man, that was assisted suicide at worst.

I actually don't know of any cafes around here. Never been a coffee-drinker.

IMO 1-3mbps is all a single person could need.

My house runs on a subscription at $50/mos for a 3mbps connection, though actual performance averages at about 40-80%. What's worse is that there is a 50gb data cap, so when our consumption hits that mark, the speed defaults to a measly 256kbps, which averages at about 20-45% at best. The house usually hits that data cap halfway through a month.

They've been laying fiber for a few years here now. 10 megabytes/second. Just as well. Not me, nor my roommate, has used a tv for anything other than a display for gaming consoles since the 90's. We only stream.

4642926
TBC, I used USD because it's a widespread denominator, and where I live fiber is still a luxury that upper middle class can barely afford.

And while I do admire the 1st world for being forward and progressive with online streaming, it's hard to not miss the bliss and mindlessness of just plopping down in front of the tube, flipping channels and finding something that interests you. That is, the feeling of being pampered with a service that is delivered to you in varying quality rather than picking out the products you consume and taking it for yourself. I find it's a more relaxing way to desaturate and switch off of the mind, and since everything is separated in respective channels, it's also a lot easier to not be triggered.

We all have different needs, even when it comes to an Internet connection.
I chose the least expensive ISP available here, and it has been adequate. The 1Mb/s service even provides reliable VOIP telephone service via my MagicJack device, which took the place of a landline telephone service costing about $50/month. I have no complaints.

It's true that I won't be able to view any IP multimedia beyond low-rez Youtube stuff, but I have an old-fashioned "rabbit-ears" antenna on my TV that gives me free HD over-the-air TV for the local broadcasting stations, and AM-FM radio is still free.

But, really, if you want to spend a whole lot more for entertainment, hey, go for it.

4642990
That's a good point actually. Maybe that's why I always collapse on the couch when my parents invite me for dinner, watching the middle of an old NCIS episode or something before the meal's ready.

Maybe that's why I like those Let's Plays that people treat more like podcasts.

I wonder, is there an arrangement where you can arrange Youtube to works like that? Like, I want to press a button and it plays random things from Red Letter Media and Acq Inc and some other channels. That would be great.

4643009
I actually don't spend much more on it. It's just cheaper around here I guess. I also have an old tv, which I keep just to play Time Crisis on :twilightsheepish:

I take my laptop to work all the time-- chained to the breakroom table tho. Has a 17" Appljack Cereal logo on the cover so it's no surprise they all eventually figured out I'm a brony. I'm hopelessly addicted to Fimfic and read on every break/lunch...

4643119
I don't like sharing any sort of entertainment with people I don't know. That's why I don't like the idea of headphones that aren't earbuds. No one gets to listen to my music but me. I'm also a very closeted brony, and no one around me knows I write.

4643772

I tried to write once. It's buried next to Jimmy Hoffa...

4644508
Don't worry, Harold Holt is on the case.

What did you try writing? I think I detect a want to write from looking through your blog.
