Plot Holes and EQG part II" The clone wars · 4:42am Aug 16th, 2017

On this subject I want to tackle both Sunset and another huge plot hole that is driving me mad. One that I will admit that I can mess up from time to time. Yes, time travel. SO to start with this-

First off, let's continue with our discussion on the problems with Sunset Shimmer. Namely her role in the plot and the mistakes that it creates. Scorpio Smith brought out an interesting point about her and her relation to the plot

Starfleet Humans, on the other hand, is a boy-focussed high school movie and in those movies there are two boys and two girls. For the boys, there is the cool, rebellious out-of-towner who shakes things up, butts heads with the principal and teaches all the kids to have fun; and then there is the asshole jock hates him because the story needs a villain. For the girls, you have the Good Girl and the Bad Girl again, with Starla as the Good Girl who waits patiently for the boy to notice her pining for him.

And this is true. Sunset fits all of the benchmarks of this type of girl and also fits in with the two bully characters from the TTHSM musical fics. Now, I've already pointed out the problem with her going after Lighting, pining after him, and wanting him to join her little clique. In spite of the fact that she is not excatly the girl who thought about having a group, because that would say that she believed that there were others out there who equaled her. However, now we get to the bigger problem of the character. i.e the whole plot that rips off HSM in spite that the author never watched it.

Now, before I go on, I think there is a confession on here I should make.

I love this series and franchise. I love the goofy upbeat tone, I love how weird and mad it can get, and I love the songs. Guilty pleasure? Yes, yes it is and it is so much fun to sit back and watch the movies.

Why is this important? Because of Sharpey and her role in all of this. See, in the attempt to make Sunset into the queen bitch archetype to fight for lighting [while being childish bully as well] there was a side effect of making Sunset into a rival character against Starla who wanted to enter the musical and drama scene. The problem? What does this give Sunset in terms of power?

Remembr, Sunset is anti-Twilight. Twilight studies with books, Sunset is hands on. Twilight is humble about her power, Sunset revels in it. Twilight creates bonds between others, Sunset breaks them.

So, what kind of power in the high school is to be gained by being part of some musical? Nobody reall respects the drama department, doesnt really provide the same prestige as a school princess, and isnt something Sunset would be really into. Hell, we find out in the later films that Sunset found their rivalry with Crystal Prep kind of pointless. Even barring that, Sunset wouldn't see the point of being in the drama department because it won't boost her power or her standing in the school.

But, what about Sharpey, you ask. Simple, Sharpey was never really into Troy, and the only reason she was mad at Gaberila was because she was about to lose the same spot she had for years by an upstart. It was a rivalry thing, not a power thing. Sharpey was a prima donna, not a Sunset.

Sunset, though not as good as a villian as she is a hero, is manipulative, sneering, and cruel. She is power hungry and I want to think the only reason she broke the humane 5 up was just to prove she could because it showed that she had power over them.

Now, onto the other plot hole. The timeline.

Ok, so lets start off with the cannon movie. Remember this photo?

We have three photos of Sunset at different moments in her life. Rainbow Rocks is established as taking place six months after the first film. This means that the Fall Formal has to take place in either sept-nov, leaving Games to take place in the Spring while Everfree is a Spring Camp. Now, I am going to assume that this is during the girl's senior year of school, because of there being three photos on the wall. Unless, of course, the movies runners decide to go the ed,edd,eddy/KND/pick a kid show route and keep them the age they are now. Wich means, that you will be expecting at least five christmas specials for no explained reason. [not the fault of the writers. Most work on shows where the characters could be dead and blown to smitherinees and would be fine the next eppie. Megan didn't even know about cannon until this show. she worked on class of 3000 for crying out loud. And if you guys know what that is thank you.] Also, barring that, luckily it seems that the middle school is right nextdoor to the High school, so there pics 1 down.

This is where the plot hole comes in and the giant headache it causes me. See, according to the fic, the entire story takes place the month before Twilight shows up. Ok, fine, it's one month...during the fall...before basketball season even starts for high school. And already, they are planning for the big game. Wich means, they had to have won some games, during the previous months. So that means it has to be in feburary because that is where the big games happen. Except for a simple problem with this plot. If it happens in fevurary, then it can't be around the same time as a Fall Formal. Not to mention that we don't see the girls get into their seniro year in this story until the power rangers story. A couple of months after events and Human in Equestria. Wich also means that this sory happen during Freshman or Sophmore year. Wich means two of those photos are during middle school. Because Starpops takes place

Two years had passed since that day

Then again, it has to be that they are seniors during Events, HIE, and the power rangers fic because

It was summer time, and school was out,

Wich means that the whole entire movie had to take place on their freshman year. So that means those three photos were taken during middle school

But wait, there's more! That whole fall formal thing? eah, it's fixed, it's stuck as a point in th timeline. That means the basketball game had to have happened in a time, when there is no basketball being played by anyone/ Or, they managed to win enough games to get into the big game during August. The only way that is possible is if this school system has no summer break. Even then, it has to be like this

GR: Let my students play basketball.
Nerdyguy: ?Uh, sir, it's not basketball season.

Looking beyond the fact that it takes months to get a musical started, it gets worse when you throw in cannon in the mix. Oh yeah, unlike EQG proper where you could say it never happened if you want to, this stuff is cannon. It's mentioned in the show a few times. Like in season 1

Lightning and Krysta had also returned from a most grand adventure that had taken further beyond the stars than ever before, to a strange new world which they saved from certain disaster.

Because, basically, Princess Twilight had time to do the following before Equestria went boom: Go to the princess conference, save the crown, go back, get coroniated [yeah, appearently that whole princess twilight cometh thing happens after EQG] and watch her world get blown up for no real reason at all. Lighting had a few weeks to go through all of that...What?

So, lets recap. Somehow, in the freshman month of sept, they managed to get into an out of season basketball game and provide a musical in a month...GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This time line makes no sense. There is no way it could all
