Friendship is Card Games: Trixie and the Razzle-Dazzle Ruse

We return to the pony novels this week, and hopefully a better showing from the titular mare. Last time we saw Trixie in one of these, G. M. Berrow was channeling the fandom circa 2011 and making her and Gilda the designated antagonists of the piece. Let’s see what she’s up to this time.

Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

Midsummer Reveal · 10:45am Jul 31st, 2017

In case you missed it, last night Discovery Family had fifteen minutes to fill between movies, and they used several Equestria Girls shorts that have never been seen before. In English. (Well, to be fair, only one of them was aired in Russian.)

There are apparently others yet unaired, so I'll have more material to work with with any potential card blogs, but here's a quick rundown for those who don't mind spoilers for three-minute shorts. (And you can always check EqD for links.)

Make-Up Shake-Up
Wherein Rarity attempts to succeed where the Oranges failed in a game attempt to gussy up Applejack.
Favorite Part: The most fabulous tea break.

A Photo Booth Story
Wherein Photo Finish's quest for DE MAJJYKZ! somehow spirals into a combination of "MMMystery on the Friendship Express" and "Sonic Rainboom."
Favorite Part: Twilight's Poirot mustache.

Raise This Roof
Epic Dance Battles of History: Applejack vs. Rainbow Dash. BEGIN!
Favorite Part: Either the ending, which is surprisingly rich with implications, or the title, which is the best possible thing one could've slapped on a dance battle of Applejack versus break dancing.

Steps of Pep
Speaking of "Sonic Rainboom," Fluttershy tries to learn the elements of a good cheer. This time, it's from Pinkie Pie.
Favorite Part: The punchline.

Mad Twience
Twilight decides to make a friend for Spike. Good thing there's a lightning storm tonight.
Favorite Part: Getting to see human Purplesmart embrace her Science-Related Memetic Disorder to an unprecedented degree.

What's especially interesting about these is that, excepting "Mad Twience," all of them appear to take place before Rainbow Rocks. Three occur before or during the Fall Formal. "Steps of Pep" shows a human version of the Ponytones, including Rarity, implying that the short is set before she learned of keytars.

Also, there is no Sunset Shimmer to be seen, further emphasizing the Rainbow Rocks shorts' implication that the Bearer-Analogues never really made much of an effort to be her friend prior to the Battle of the Bands. She was just kind of... there.

Still, all told, these were fun.

Gee it was nice of them to announce this in any way, shape or form that I didn't find out until 1 this morning and had to hunt the shit down on Dailymotion. :ajbemused:

They were fun shorts, though the dance-off one was kinda weak (and was basically a rehash of The Cart Before the Ponies). The new animation studio really went to town on Rarity's bewbs tho. :trollestia::moustache:
(Also holy CRAP Pinkie just show EVERYONE your panties except the audience why dontcha?)

Yeah, as far as I can tell, there was one commercial for it the day before. The only reason I knew about it was because I compulsively check Derpibooru and saw an unfamiliar frame of official-looking animation. The source link led to the promo on YouTube.

In hindsight, I should've posted a blog then. Sorry. :ajsleepy:

And at least Rarity didn't join in the dance-off to avenge her shameful defeat to Derpy's sick moves. ("Everybody do the Flop!")

On the ending of "Raise This Roof": It is semi-canon (I think it was a deleted scene or maybe an unaired short so not full canon) that the Pinkies swap places from time to time so there's a good chance the one handing out the trophy is NormallyASmallEquine!Pinkie instead of NormallyAHairlessApe!Pinkie.

I didn't notice Rarity's "assets" but I did catch that high kick. Pinkie also strikes me as the sort of person who'd "go commando" so it might not have neen a panty shot the crowd got.
Either that or she'd wear some sort of "silly print" underwear, probably balloons. Never can tell with some people.

Well, Mad Twience is definitely post Legend of Everfree, what with her photo of Timber on her desk as inspiration.

The absolutely terrible work with Scootaloo and Apple Bloom kinda out-balanced the break-dancing. It was so painfully apparent that they didn't pay the two VAs to voice the human CMC members. The gasps, the laughs... like fingers on a chalkboard.

The good? Always has to be Photo Finish. Although how her camera was both an SLR and apparently a Polaroid at the same time I don't know.

New EG content? I'll be sure to hunt them down and have a look soon. Thanks for the info, FOME.

Ze magics!

Is there a way to find all the EQG shorts? Like all of them, ever?

Or at the very least, an authoritative list of them?

Well. Guess I know what I'm doing after work. Though given that I routinely check Discovery Family to see if new pony material has come up, it is disappointing that Discovery made such a poor effort to advertise this that I only am seeing it now.

Does anyone else think that Photo Finish's voice is higher than her pony counterpart?
