    What I would do differently

As my main account announced, the Shooting stars fic is done and cancelled. And in it's place is something new. At the same time, a certain writer released season 10 of starfleet. and that got me thinking...what would I do differently.

Sorry, but when your dream (A Sonic movie that did well and made big) came true you kind of frogot. Well, that and having some fun on other sites picking apart some new targets. And weapon making.

    More on weapon making later.

    Evolution new chapter!

Yay, a new chapter. No, I havent' watched all of the finale though I was spoiled and it ended the way I wanted it to.

But, you are probably wondering why it took me over a year to finish. Well, it's a long story, and no it doesn't really have anything to do with my burnout or annoyance.

About the Equestria Girls Starfleet members... · 6:33pm Jul 8th, 2017

There was something I noticed about the Starfleet members as I was writing the power rangers story. And it was confirmed when I saw a comment

The Starjerks seem one dimensional

Well, see (And don't worry, I'll try and work on their characterization slowly over time. ) I came to an interesting conclusion while doing this story.

When you take away the war and the powers and all of that from Starfleet, you are left with even flatter characters than you did before. Weird but true, without that miltary background, they are nothing more than blank slates without anything to latch onto for people to talk about.

Artie lacks all of that interesting stuff that made me like him in the first place. Starla no longer has a mother who is a freaking hero, and I cant find any info that says that buddy is a single father. Even Rhymey, the most hated of the group, lacks anything beyond: Fencing, rhymes, and song writing. Grand Ruler is just a typical over done gary stue the likes of wich only Von Doom knows about.

I know some people can complain about the Humane six, but here is the difference with them as opposed to Starfleet. The mane six are well defined and 3dimensional characters. We know who they aree and what they think like. So a question that is asked like "What if Rainbow Dash is in high school" can be asked and a plot can be formed around that. It's why I enjoy the first movie, because it shows Dash without some of her eariler development. It's why I love the second movie, because it has Dash without Dragonshy, without Sonic Rainboom, and all of that jazz.

As I said in the author's note, the Humane six interest me because of the different questions that I like bringing up around them. Because, again, this is the mane six without magic, without cutie marks, and without destinies or their normal backstories. And it is a lot harder to be a Rarity in the human world than in Equestria.

Heck it's this type of thing that always attracts me to alt verses. Who are these girls when you put them through a differnt setting. And yes, I have noticed subtle differences that sadly, would take an entire series to explore. Because, remember, Twilight is kind of the face of the show, so we have 75 minutes to explore her more than the others.

This, sadly, means that Starfleet loses out on that for two reasons. One because the original author hates character and flaws, and two...these guys were flat as paper to begin with and the only thing to tie them into being the heroes that they were originally was...just getting adopted by Grand Ruler. Even then, Grand Ruler had to be changed (In order to match the narritative the story created for him) to being something that is rather impossible to do and quite redicilous once put down on paper. Starla has to be bullied for some random reason even though that is against her own character and so on and so on.

It's reall interesting to think of the differences between the two teams. While the mane six have such personalities they could be put anywhere and do anything, Starfleet is directly tied to their military career and nothing else. It's like, they have to be soldiers in their universe in order for it to work. Now, if I was doing this with my characters and how I had been developing them. I would put the Starfleet members into a military acedemy run by Grand Ruler the III.

BOOM! Not only would this give Starfleet their tiny characters back but it would fix an annoying headache I have had for a while with the Starfleet humans world. And it isn't just Rhymey dating Flutters.

It's the timeline. See, in case no one noticed yet, I am a massive continuity hound. I try and look at the whole story and find out how it all fits together. Hell, I do it a lot with random crap and my first story published was a bad fic that tied all of the sonic continuities together.

But, Starfleet humans has one hell of an issue with time and putting them into a militart academy would fix it up. And it would fix the following issues

1) No more Sunset acting like Sharpay for some reason. Yes, this is number one because I found this to be insulting to Sunset's character. She is never or will she ever be like Sharpay. This also fies up why she acted like that in this story and not in EQG or even why everyone was afraid of her when they weren't in the humans story.

2) They would be seperate schools so no more reason for the Shadowbolts (Oh I'm sorry, the crystal empires) to show up for the big game and lose to them in the first place, thus negating everything that happens in friendship games.

3) No more need of Crystaline Flash and his mother. Thus, no more reason for there to be a confusing excat double of Flash Sentry to show up at the end of Rainbow Rocks. Seriously what the hell?

4) The two bands can now be seperate and thus no longer need to create a large band. They can then split off into fighting the Demonites on one side and the sirens on the other.

5) No more amenisa that will create a bigger plot hole. You know what I mean, the "Twilight got sent into a coma and thus wasn't in the original movie for that reason" plot hole. This, to me, is probably the biggest of the plot holes in the story, because by going on with his desire to torture Twilight, the author created a big plot hole. Now, to be fair, Friendship Games didn't come out yet; however, even taking that into account means nothing in the end. Becuase it doesn't answer this question, if Twilgiht was a student of CHS BEFORE the events of EQG, then why didn't Pinkie say somethng? Why didn't they seem to care or notice. At least in the movie, Twilight wasn't even attendign classes, here? Nothing.

6) Would actually be closer to how Starfleet is in the maneverse and gives them their flat characters back

7) Would open the door for the following to show up: Dimentia, Kudos, Titan...

8)By keeping the two schools seperate, the question of why Starfleet did nothing to stop Sunset doesn't have to be answered.

9) IT would give more chances for the sports story to be able to take place and while we are ripping things off from better material. Then we could instead make the second thing that happens during the sport game to be a cook-off like Eddie's Million Dollar cook off.

and 10) This opens the door for many more stories in the hands of another writer.

But, keeping them in the same school removes so mcuch from them and makes it...

More fun for me to explore this team and who they are. I can't promise it'll be as good as the other story, but I promise you all...I will do my best to make this enjoyable for you all.

This was a really good post, I appreciate the effort you put into explaining why putting Starfleet in a separate, military school would be an improvement.

I read the T3K15 riffs on Starfleet Humans and Starpops. Have you taken a look at them? If you did, care to share your thoughts (on the riffs and/or Starfleet Humans)?

On another note, Mykan's parody of Thriller was one of the most bizarrely stupid things I've ever read. So much so, I immediately added the D-Man Knights (really?) to the "Narm" section on the "YMMV/My Little Unicorn" page on TV Tropes.

Starfleet's lack of characterization aside, I consider the scene in the hospital where the Equestria Girls call out Starfleet on their bull to be one of the greatest things I've ever read.

Heh, I did read the Starfleet humans and Starpops riffs and I loved them both. Heck, Starpops was one of the few Starfleet stories I read while it was being published and I hated it. Heck, I hate Starpops most of all because of the treatment it did to my favorite EQG movie.

As for thoughts...

As I pointed out about the Starfleet humans fic...It has about a million and one plotholes and all of them stem from this crazed itdea that Starfleet had to be in Canterlot high. This creates way too many plot holes and really feels like that it was only made that way so the Starfleet team can continue to be superior to the mane six. I also loathed the way that Sunset Shimmer was treated in this fic. In the orginal movie, she was cold and manipulative, loving the use of power over others and serving as a good counter point to Twilight's selflessness. Here, she was Sharpay but without the fun of being Sharpay (Ok, I love High school musical) Also, Lighting was horribly OOC. Seriously, why wass he acting like such an ass in the fic when he never acts like this in any of the other stories.

The riff was brilliant and it's one of those I have read twice.

Starpops...Was simply horrible. Again, leaving plot holes and how this insults my girls, this also makes the mistake of trying to intergrate the Starfleet band into an area where they clearly don't belong. Oh, and the villians suck!!!!!!!

The riff was awesome as well and I want to try and participate more in it.

Starla has to be bullied for some random reason even though that is against her own character and so on and so on.

Yeah, this pisses me off in badly thought-out media.
Why is a character who is stated to be perfect and never falls foul of social circles bullied? What reason do they have to do so?
It's like making a high-school drama and casting the bullying victim as Paris Hilton! It just doesn't work!
Bullying is a terrible thing, I'd never say otherwise, but in narrative context there's got to be a reason for it.
And jealousy isn't good enough. Envy is villainous but not, in itself, intimidating. The logical opposite, Pride, is intimidating and Starfleet have excessive amounts of that.

Hell, in my headcanon, Fleur-de-Lis was bullied when she was younger.
The reason? She also used to have a disorder that made her vomit when nervous.
Yes, it was a weird plot-point but it was something!

I frequently make fun of this when it pops up in a teen movie I am watching. Especially when I see a movie where the person would be seen as beautiful in any other world. It really only served to make us care about Starla.

Yes, it was a weird plot-point but it was something!

Yes, but I could see someone being made fun for that. The name barf bag would be thrown about around her and it makes sense!

Actually the most popular name for her (Blueblood came up with it) was Bleurgh-de-Lis.
It's left its scars.

If jerk mode sunset shimmer is comparable with any alpha b it would be shay van buren from mpgis because of the stupidity of their plans ( mixing laxatives in a drink isnt much better than a teenage zombie( that could be easily decimated) army) and because they would fit more as the voice of reason than the regina george of their group.
Another way that would fit is making the characters adults with jobs like the ones described in their character profiles like arborist or a coffee shop owner (and see how to avoid countloganization, which can, depending of the story, be hard as balls) or astronomer....
Also I feel you... Rainbow Rocks is the best eqg movie, it developed sunset so well...
