the royalty of Maretonia · 6:07am Jun 20th, 2017
Maretonia... out of all the Ponyland Confederacy's other nations besides my home, this one is the one that intrigues me the most. A proud country that follows it own customs, even going so far as to speak it's own language (similar to the human language of Spanish). It is a country upheld by three tenants; honor, family, and tradition. These three pillars are the foundations of their society, and a key factor that holds this remarkable herd of ponies- the Maretonians- together.
The duke and Duchess of Maretonia... the rulers of this great land, held as icons by the ponies they rule. To the ponies of Maretonia, politicians are seen as corrupted leaders, and little trust is given to them. But the royalty; ahhhhh, they are loved dearly by the ponies of Maretonia, and are above the corruption of the bureaucrats. And it's not just the Duke and Duchess, the hidalgos and hildalgas of each region in Maretonia are seen in the same golden light. If any Maretonian pony has a problem or injustice in their lives, they know they can turn to their local noble, who will always be ready to grant them an audience.
If any danger threatens the Maretonian nobility, the ponies of this land can get extremely protective of their aristocracy. If, say, a pony were to try to attempt to hurt, or even kill, any of the Nobles, they will definitely incur the wrath of the Maretonians. An attack on the nobles is an attack on Maretonia herself, a stain on national honor. You aren't going to just be able to trot away from such a deplorable action. And if, say, a Pony were to try and assassinate the duke or duchess, well....
Let's just say you won't be trotting out of Maretonia alive. You may even find yourself on top of a step pyramid, surrounded by Maretonian priests of Tezlopoca, their hooves covered in your own blood. The last thing you see is the chief priest holding your beating pony heart in his hooves, and holding it high above their head, along with the red-soaked knife that carried out the deed... yet there was once a mare who the Maretonians believed crazy enough to try this horrific act, though it was an imposter, and not really her. And this mare lived to tell the tale of her deed, as my Maretonian tale will explain.

Do they still practice sacrifice in Maretonia?
