It's been a long December and there's reason to believe...

Maybe this year will be better than the last.

I'd say more, but let's not tempt fate, she seems to be having a rough year too.

    Have you voted yet?

This isn't an endorsement, I have no facts and figures to offer you, no scandals to mention. I'll just say that this election may well be the most noteworthy in quite some time for the turnout, and early voting is still happening tomorrow. If you mailed yours in, check to make sure it was received. If it wasn't, there is still time to vote in person and cancel the mail in. No matter how you do

Green Is Apparently 169,259th In Ranking

I recognize knighty said he was having issues with that, but... what math is this?

Well, incomprehensible math errors aside, good lord that’s an amazing number to me. I mean, seriously, I had hoped a few people would follow along but that fact that so many of you read on a monthly basis and have stuck it out with me is just baffling. I appreciate it, always, but just... wow.

However, all good things (well, all things, in any case) must come to an end, and such is the case with Green.

You see, despite my efforts to ship all of the things, the story begins and ends with Flarity, and I don’t feel I have much left to tell about their journey. I’ve greatly enjoyed it, but they’ve earned their ending.

But fear not, my fellow shippers! I do have other stories to tell in this universe, and I will be happy to do so. It will simply be in a sequel. You’re welcome to follow along, as always, but you’ll have a proper ending for this one before I ask you to consider the sequel.

And furthermore, just because their story is over doesn’t mean I am done with Flarity even in this universe. Or for that matter, with the ship in general.

So, to my neighsayers who have joked that we’d see the end of the year, decade, or even century before the end of this story (not even mad, even I didn’t know I’d be approaching half a million words by the end), watch this space.

While the news that the end is on the horizon saddens me, the promise of a sequel brings the happy right back.

To put things in perspective, Infinite Jest is about 540,000 words long.

I’m just saying. :unsuresweetie:

That does put things in perspective, yes.

I’ve known for a long time the end is coming. It’s easy to feel when it’s a story as well written as this. You build up to it, slowly start tying the frayed ends together into a coherent and complete tapestry. I’m not just showering praise, but being legitimate here. It’s not a sudden ending, but one that is slowly built towards as you work on finishing the story properly.

And, well, that’s a good thing. I look forward to see what comes next, but for the time being I’ll wait for Green to finally finish

Aww, tho I'm sad to hear it'll end - it's entirely your fault I'm way too much into Flarity/Rarishy to the point I got back into writing myself - I do see your point, look forward to reading more of your work in this or other canons!

It's sad to hear that Green is ending, though it's exciting to know that you've got a sequel planned. What will be the sequel's focus, Twilight, Pinkie and Celestia?

And the cmc, and fleur and fancy... same cast, just continuing where green left off, after rounding things out for Rarity and Fluttershy.

I just checked. My Late Fees is back up to 140th, and Moonfic is in the low 400s.

So basically, i think you just need to get good, scrublord.

I never claimed Green was free from error. It makes that grievous sin of not being concise, it contains multiple ships, thus making the Venn diagram of potential fans even smaller, and of course despite this it is somehow popular, so it attracts downvotes for that reason alone.

But I somehow doubt the gap between your fics and mine is supposed to be 160,000. I was in the low 4000’s before the update.

What I more mean is, this mathematical change has bumped me up a few hundred places from where I was. I was just trying to make a wry joke about the difference in circumstances from it.

If I were seriously insulting you, I’d have done you the dignity of greater eloquence, maybe added some witty flourishes.

(Also I am obviously that much better than you. Scrublord.)

4561994
I’d be shocked if you weren’t. I was at best a c student in English class. Punctuation was annoying to me.

If my fics seem polished you can thank the many people who have helped me edit, and in turn helped me learn how to not mess up as much. What passes for prose is a cobbling of Douglas Adams, Robert Jordan, and a wealth of other scifi and fantasy writers who influenced the word order and diversity thereof.

Here’s to our editors, who protect the unwary and defenseless masses from the horrors of our first drafts. Bless their stalwart hearts.

4,717th now. Lower than I remember, but infinitely better than 169,000th.

About time Jesus Christ man. Now I don’t want you to think I’m attacking you or anything. You’ve given me several hours of one of the best romance stories I’ve ever read. I just feel it should have ended a long time ago.

Oh well, I get the feeling I’m probably in the minority but whatever.

4563007
Heh. I understand. But Green was a story I always felt like I wanted to write until I ran out of good ideas for Flarity. And I have done that.

I'm happy you're finally getting close to an end of Green. I've been patiently waiting for 9 months, not touching new chapters, hoarding them like a great treasure. Green is one of the best stories here and I'm going to read it ALL again from the very beginning once it's done

The world you write about is alive when the story is being read. From certain perspective you are creator of the worlds. Never stop

I love the story, one of my favorite. Dont forget the B plot with Celestia and pinkie and twilight. Also side plot of luna and rarity/futtershy. I thought you were going to end with everyone shipping with everyone else. One big main six ship.

4563565
Heh. That would be fun, but it wouldn’t match the characters very well. AJ and Fluttershy don’t do well with jealousy.

I was honestly wondering how long “Green” story would continue for. Please don’t mistake my meaning here. This is, after all, one of the longest stories - if not the longest - that I have been following, and I have loved absolutely every word I’ve read. “Green” is among my top favorite stories that I’ve read during my time on Fimfiction, up there with “Every Little Bit” and “It Takes a Village” (the latter having been the first piece I read, and consequently the hook which drew me to make an account). You portray all of the characters spectacularly and give them such believable depth that I wished the show would have emulated. It depresses me to learn that the end of “Green” is nigh, but I am also glad that it is ending (and, given your ability, I’m confident it will be a glorious end) rather than slogging on and potentially growing stale.

TLDR; Story rocks, thanks for the ride.

4563914
Heh. I’m not quitting writing anytime soon. But yes, I feel that Flarity’s arc is over, and I don’t feel that the story should continue in it’s current form when the primary character’s are no longer being prominently featured. That’s what sequels are for.

Stories can go on for too long as well. I don't think Green is at that point yet, but I also think its good to end it at this point. I have enjoyed it very much, but yeah... I can see why you feel its time to wrap things up.
