New Cover Art! (Novel-Idea Appreciation Post) · 5:44am Apr 9th, 2017

On Friday, Novel-Idea asked to read a few of my stories. And then, as is tradition with such a lovely man, he designed new cover art for each story! For free! What a deal!

I personally think they all look lovely.

Make sure to check out Novel-Idea's page. He's not just a great graphic designer, but a great author too.

On an unrelated note... I need to write an original fiction short story, about 2000-2500 words long, before Monday morning. I have no ideas. Anyone wanna help me out? :derpytongue2:
The only criteria is that it needs to be literary fiction—whatever that means. :moustache:

... oh. Well, then.

Drink heavily until the universe loses all meaning, then write a story with no discernible point about a suburban upper-middle-class person struggling with their recent bitter divorce, and resolutely refuse to close any character, narrative or plot arcs. For extra bonus points, have them start watching children's cartoons about pastel colored ponies in a search for meaning, and then turn the TV off before they learn anything or draw any conclusions.

i assume literary fiction means it's fiction about literature - metafiction.

i dunno, write about a girl who's lonely and anxious, so she writes a comic book script. :derpytongue2:

Write a story set in a generic Tolkien fantasy world. Then, towards the end, drop the big reveal- the Orcs were the good guys the whole time. Then reveal additionally that the Macguffin is actually a pen. Have a character begin to determinedly write the story's first line.

I'm afraid this has to be literary fiction, which basically means stories about people living in the real world, having realistic conflicts—no Orcs allowed. :derpytongue2:

I feel like "no orcs allowed" is an unnecessary restriction on literary writing. You should write a story about humans in a normal situation, except they happen to have orcs as slaves. This detail is only occasionally referred to and none of the humans ever respond to it in any meaningful way, perhaps even treating the subject as less worthy of discussion than, say, the weather.

(The orcs are, of course, a metaphor for genre fiction.)

That third one is hilarious.

Two of those make me want to read a story. :twilightblush:

(The Trixie one is one of them)

Just write a comedy about some guy having to deal with a very annoying event. Maybe he has to take care of his little brother for a while, or something.

Also, the artwork for that first cover looks kind of unpleasant, if you know what I mean.

You don't need drink for that, haha! Oh God it's all so empty

Everyone needs a hobby. As long as you liked them, I'm happy.

Anyway, this sort of stuff is relaxing and fun!

Still, thanks for the signal boost! Much appreciated. :pinkiehappy:
