    A Poll (poll closed)

Hello everyone! I do so hope that the day finds you well and in good health. I myself am doing better, as I 've gotten most of my computer troubles sorted out for the most part. However, unfortunately when my computer decided to kick the bucket, it took with it the latest chapter for Spider Quest, which leaves me to rewrite the whole thing from scratch. However, instead of letting myself get too

    Something I Found

So first a quick update on my computer situation: I took in to see if anything was salvageable, and apparently there was something wrong with the hard drive that they did not have the means to fix without ordering in and installing a brand new one, which would have been rather costly Getting anything off the old was essentially out of the question without it costing even more. Needless to say I

    My Computer Died

And it took with it a whole bunch of writing.
Unsure if I'll be able to salvage any of what was lost. Thankfully I had some my writing and other files saved onto flash drives, so the blow is not debilitating. Still, it doesn't feel good to know that some of the stuff you've been working on is possibly just gone.

I need to manage my saved comments better

Made a quick change to the authors notes, including another comment that helped shape the direction of the latest chapter. Sorry for any inconvenience.

    Special Thanks and a Question

Hello everyone, good to see you. Dilos1 here to make an announcement regarding Spider Quest, my latest story on Fimfiction. I must say, I was quite surprised at the amount of feedback that I got when it went live, as I was wholly expecting it to only do okay in terms of views and comments. Fast forward a couple of days, and I simply cannot adequately describe my thanks that you all took the time

The Crossover Conspiracy · 5:05am Mar 23rd, 2017

Just the other day I received a PM from another Displaced author regarding my own take on the infamous genre, which you have all come to know as Hollow Shades. I will not point out who it was that messaged me, only that the message itself was very flattering. I shall spare the details on how flattering it was, and instead get right to the point of why I am writing this.
Basically, the person who messaged me asked in a very polite manner if it was within my best interests to possibly partake in a crossover, one in which Angela and the main character of their story would be brought together by means other than the tokens.

Shocking I know. I mean, who would have thought that a Displaced crossover did not need a plot device that was as universally accepted and perhaps even hated as the token in order to occur. Frankly, I was kind of surprised that I wasn't the one who suggested it for once. Aside from that though, one thing that I want to get out of the way before I say anything else is that I stand by my previous decision of not have an official crossover for Hollow Shades. In my own unprofessional opinion, it is perhaps the main reason that Displaced stories are generally looked down upon not taking into account the overall quality of the majority of the stories of said genre. I should not have to explain why, as they tend to break up the flow of both stories, forcing readers to follow a second story that they may have no intention of reading, even if it means missing crucial details in the story that they are following. Speaking from personal experience, the vast majority of crossovers that I have encountered often become little more than convoluted plot lines, introducing characters that I have generally little to no interest in.
Now do not get me wrong. I do believe that a crossover can be executed well, and if one already has then I have yet to encounter it. But by now I think you get the point I am trying to make, that point being that I don't want my story to become yet another addition to the mosh pit of uninteresting tales.

I am willing to make a compromise in the hopes that I can appease those who wish to crossover with Hollow Shades. The compromise that I am thinking of is that I am willing to let other Displaced authors "borrow" Angela for their own stories, and when I say borrow I mean that I am giving them permission to portray her in whatever way best suits their own story.

(yes I am using it again)
there are going to be certain terms and conditions that I request be followed first.

The first condition is that if you want to request to have Angela appear in your own story, I must first receive a PM notifying me of said request, which must include how you want portray alongside your Displaced character. Basically, you must give me the full story on. . . well, your story, and what Angela will be doing in your story. In short, I want to know from beginning to end what will occur while she is present, and I will determine if I am okay with it depending on how you intend to use her. For example, if you wish to have her appear in a time of need, or simply be someone to talk to, I may find it agreeable. But when it comes to anything M-rated, by which I mean anything other than gore, then I am probably going to have an issue with the request.

The second condition is that if I do agree to let you use Angela, any events that take place during the crossover will NOT be canon to Hollow Shades or any of its subsequent stories. What this means is that I will not be taking part in the writing of the crossover. You will be the one responsible for it, and for the most part you may use Angela as you see fit, so long as it is mutually agreed that there will be no relation aside from name between Hollow Shades and whatever story it "crosses over" with.

Now I realize that with these conditions I am making myself sound like a bit of a hard ass, but that's only because I want the best for my story and for Angela, despite what I may put her through in my own tales, which is something I believe every author wants. I just want her to be treated well is all. So anyway, that is all that I have to say on the matter. If you have any thoughts you want make known regarding this development, please be sure to let me know.
As always, thank you for listening to the ramblings of an author who attempted perhaps the most insane thing on this site, that being making a somewhat decent enough Displaced story.
Sincerely,
Dilos1

If any one to gear i have a thoery on why the displaced is well a mixed bag note i for one do enjoy some displaced

I agree. And those term's of your's are pretty acceptable. I mean Hollow Shade's is YOUR story, and YOU decide what happen's to it's main character.

Now do not get me wrong. I do believe that a crossover can be executed well, and if one already has then I have yet to encounter it.

Have you read "The Mighty Warrior of Epicness" by shinigamisparda? ...Give it a shot.

I very much agree with this. I have read many crossovers only to stop when the "token" suddenly appears and some guy shows up, says dude chill then explains the whole situation, as if it's relavent to the story! The fact that this is a multi universal phenamanon has NO affect to the story and does not need to be explained each time by someone who often has near complete power and can fix the problem.:rainbowhuh:

(Those howevers are super fancy):coolphoto:

Some of the best crossovers that I have read come from Awakening of a Tactician. Mainly because he completely rewrite the crossovers to his own characters pov.

4468704 dont forget about Anubis 'doggy' Cruger as well

Displaced storys are shit in general. Do not mix your own work with this substance.

4468666 Do you agree with any one portion in particular, or just the whole rant in general?

4468667 I'd be willing to listen.

Thanks for the support. However while Angela is technically my character, I can't exactly copyright her or anything like that. In truth, the main purpose of this blog was simply a polite request aimed towards any fellow authors that would like to have Angela star in their tales. Realistically anyone could decide to use her, as I can't really enforce the conditions that I listed.

I'll have to look those up. Thanks for letting me know.

4468773 Assuming that is coming from a place of caring in which you don't want to see my story become yet another addition to the convoluted mess that is the Displaced genre, I thank you for your concern. However while I do agree that the majority of the tales are rather lacking in terms of quality, I wouldn't exactly call them that. Call me overly optimistic if you will, but I personally believe that with some proper guidance and a bit more effort on the authors part the genre can improve on itself. Hopefully anyway.

4469363 the crossovers some displaced storys are very heavy on crossovers this some times means to read one story you have to read 5 others and this can be a problem when said stories repeat that fact. Especially when you dont like a story
(Holy heck site was failing bigtime while i tried to type this)

Just as a hypothetical question... are you at all interested in crossing over with other, non-Displaced types of stories?

4469363 The token system is really annoying and has ruined more stories than it has had a good influence on. The use of your character should be monitored and controlled and having rules and guidelines set that people have to follow is perfectly acceptable. I also agree that having Angela bombarded with requests and tokens would negatively impact both her character and the story in general. I think you are being generous by allowing people to use your character at all.

4469765 It depends on what kind of story it would be crossing over with, and as I said it will not be canon to the original story.

4469798
Perfectly fine; I'll keep that in mind for later.

4468704 I read it, and … skimmed through the cross-over-y bits, because they were tedious. Same with other Displaced stories I could choke down: the crossovers were almost invariably the worst parts. There aren't many stories I look at and say "ain't nobody got time for that!" but Austraeoh is one such series, and Displaced crossover sources are pretty common as well. (I did have time for Living in Equestria [565k] and My(stara's) Little Ponies [535k], among others, mind you.)

I think there was one that had halfway tolerable crossovers, The Awakening of a Tactician (already mentioned by 4468730). They didn't add much to the story, but they didn't make it much worse either.

Other than that, well, that's one of the top three reasons Displaced are so unusually good at losing my interest. (The other two would probably be the generally mediocre prose and the idiot balls most characters hold in order to conform to the ludicrously specific Displaced conventions.)
