    The Knife’s Edge

The other day I got a message from ZanarNaryon telling me they had created a TVTropes page for To Serve In Hell. Now, TVTropes can be a dangerous place to start reading, unless you have a few hours to spend getting lost in it. But if you want to check it out, please

Not with a bang, but a whimper

    Hey friends.

I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Ping 2: Live and In Person

Almost exactly 2.5 years ago, my family and I bought tickets to Whinny City Pony Con 2020. Of course there was no such con, at least not in a physical capacity. But good egg that he is, Charlie Worthley (con organizer extraordinaire) has made it effortless to transfer our tickets from that long-ago time to right now, despite all that’s transpired between.

    Ping

    I live.

    Time's gotten away from me.

2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Including some of the core issues that had pointed me in the direction of MLP in the first place.

    Artistic Expression

It's been too long. Things are great. Really, really great. Not so much for writing, but for different modes of expression and life.

Are you ready to rock? · 11:20pm Mar 19th, 2017

I tagged this with To Serve In Hell. We'll get there in a minute. First let's talk Heavy Rock, which is about 18 hours away from hitting the auto-submit queue. :rainbowdetermined2:

Rarity is perfectly capable of waiting her turn

In case you missed my recent posts, Heavy Rock is an Equestria Girls romance that takes Flash Sentry and Limestone Pie through a journey involving loud music, social anxiety, and a love triangle that's probably never been written before. It draws inspiration from classic metal of the 80s (and more recent styles inspired by it), and includes chapter titles and Youtube links in the author's notes that invoke classic songs worth headbanging to. But even if heavy music isn't your thing, Heavy Rock delivers a slow burning romance over its 12 chapters and 22,816 words that should resonate with anyone who knows what it's like to wonder where you're going in life and to feel a thrill when things start seeming to line up. I'm still trying to get another look at some tweaks to the final chapter, but the rest of it's pretty much ready.

While you wait, enjoy some mood music

Now for some good news/bad news about To Serve In Hell: I think I can get another chapter out on 4/1, and I'm still sitting on a mountain of future chapters in various states of completion, but it seems likely that I'll need to take a month or two off from updating in the near future to buy time to flesh things out more. Don't worry, I've still got tons of passion and excitement for the project, and I hope it's going to be worth the (very long) wait to see where it ends up. But my enemy as always is time. :ajsleepy:
